BASIC ONE COURSE SYLLABUS

COURSE CODE: B01

SUMMARY
The communicative competence of the first course of the Basic Level is based on level Pre-A1 of the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages.

To achieve a satisfactory degree of mastery in the communicative competence by the student, understanding,
interacting, and expressing themselves in situations of communication in an incipient, but adequate way, in oral or
written language and in a standard language, objectives must be established general in the different competences
that integrate the communication.

The contents are the development of comprehension and oral expression, as well as of comprehension and written
production in levels of language use in simple and everyday situations with some fluency, linguistic correctness and
appropriacy as well as the use of learning strategies, texts contextualized and tasks.

METHODOLOGY
Live Communication Plus is a methodology that caters active communication and life experiences. The core of our
method consists of practical, fun, and student-centered lessons where instructors apply proven key teaching
principles and strategies which provide learners with the skills that they need to interact and face their current
professional challenges successfully.

COMPETENCES
LISTENING: Identify the communicative intention and the main points of brief oral messages on the topics
contemplated in the curriculum, issued in situations of direct communication, slowly, clearly and with possible
repetitions or clarifications.

SPEAKING: Carry out brief and simple interventions, but that are understandable, adequate and coherent, related to
their interests and to the most immediate communication needs foreseen in the curriculum, in a neutral register,
with considerable breaks and interruptions, with a very repertoire and control limited linguistic resources and
resorting to communication support.

READING: Recognize the communicative intention, the main points, the predictable specific information and the
formal or informal registration of short texts in standard language, simple and contextualized, based on visual
information.

WRITING: Offer written information about personal data, fill in simple forms and transcribe information. Write short
and simple messages and texts, related to specific everyday aspects, appropriate to the communication situation,
with an elementary organization and cohesion, in a neutral register and with very limited control of linguistic
resources.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Basic One is an introductory course of English. It addresses situations related to introductions, asking about
people’s favorites, asking where people are from, describing cities, hometowns, houses and asking about
personal items.

The course represents the first in-class instruction and the topics are:

Unit 1: Friends and family.

Unit 2: Jobs around the World

Unit 3: Houses and Apartments

GENERAL COURSE GOALS:


By the end of the course, students will be able to:

● Engage in conversations related to introductions and personal exchange of information.


● Describe places and identify people’s nationalities.
● Identify and describe jobs around the world

EVALUATION CRITERIA
The evaluation system for our courses is the Ongoing Assessment, which improves the number of hours of language
use and reduces the percentage of evaluation sessions, which can reach almost 20% in other similar courses.
Ongoing evaluation has been considered for the evaluation criteria. It is focused of Formative Learning and is
included in the teaching-learning process of other languages.

It will have four components that will average progressively. The total number of points is 20 and the passing grade
is 13 points.
