WORKING OF ACTUATOR FOR COARSE/FINE FEED

The Actuator for IRIS control valve for coarse and fine feed consists of the following:

1. Magnetic Rotary Actuator 360 deg Rotation

2. Reed switch
3. 5/2 way single solenoid valve
4. 2/2 way direct acting solenoid valve
5. Flow Control valve

Objective: To achieve Full opening, Partial closing and full closing for Coarse feed and fine feed
arrangement.

Important Points:

1. Signal to 5/2 way should be direct

2. Signal to 2/2 way should be through the reed switch

Operation Sequence:

Position 1: Valve is completely closed (No electric supply to Solenoid valve or Limit switch)

To open the IRIS valve, supply to be given to 5/2 way solenoid valve so that the IRIS valve completely
opens. At this time, there should be no signal to limit switch. Now the IRIS valve has opened 100%
enabling coarse feed.

Position 2: Valve is completely open

To start the fine feed, cut off the supply from 5/2 way - so that the IRIS valve starts closing.

Simultaneously supply signal to limit switch...hence when the position (say 80% close) is reached, it
will energize the 2/2 way solenoid valve and the system will stay put at this position– resulting in
fine feed.

Position 3: Valve is 80% close.

Now to close the IRIS valve completely, cut off the supply from limit switch.

So the IRIS valve completely closes - thus achieving Position 1

NOTES:

1. The proportion of coarse/fine feed can be adjusted by shifting the position of Reed switch. In
any case it should be more than 10-15%
2. Flow control valve is factory adjusted and should not be tampered with – as it may result in
malfunction of the actuator.
