The Grand Pix Race Roadmap (Illustration Next Page)

The roadmap illustrates a concept of a long “Grand Pix” car racing map that entails a very long
transience and dangerous road. I chose the concept and illustration because I always think of racing tracks and
other car roads on our world as representation of new adventures and journeys in life. This is because every
road or path we take is a new a journey for us. The road we take may be difficult or terrifying, but it something
worth taking and discovering. Furthermore, I believe that every road we go is a developmental progress. As
we drive along the road or highway, we undergo significant changes and gain new insights as well from different
places and people.

Now first on the roadmap, we have the Racer’s Car (the Self). The racer begins to embark on his racing
journey that is dangerous, yet adventurous. Before the epic race, the racer has been modifying his navigators
(Mission), assessing his steering wheel, racing goggles, and rear view mirrors (Vision), and his orders from the
race engineer and strategist (Reason/Purpose), as well as racing gear and equipment to ensure everything is set
and ready to go.

Next, Checkpoints (Goal Setting). The racer must accomplishe each checkpoint across different
locations in order to be committed other succeeding checkpoints along the way. If he was not able to accomplish
them on time, then he will fall-behind and fail to accomplish his goals. By reaching each checkpoint or subgoals
in a timely manner, he makes a huge progress in achieving his final/ultimate goal.

On the other hand, the Pit Stop (Time Management & Strength). This is a place where the racer needs
to manage his time wisely by making necessary repairs and car adjustments, request immediate help from his
crew and his race strategist (captain) to review and restructure their plans and purpose, as well as rejuvenate
himself and refuel his vehicle in preparation for more difficult challenges ahead.

The Rocky Mountains represents the racers stress management. This is because as he faces the
dangerous and difficult obstacles ahead, he endures and fights through unexpected falling debris, rocks from
the mountains by performing set of unique racing tactics and car maneuvering skills to carefully avoid
potential dangers or any incoming difficulties that may lie ahead.

Furthermore, the crowd represents my relationship with other people. As the racer goes along on his
adventure, he is able to communicate with them through gestures and quick, yet meaningful communicative
interactions. Despite having short and quick interactions, he will do anything for his supporters and loved
ones by hard work, maintaining a competitive performance, accomplishing goal, and successfully winning the
grand prize.

Lastly, This is where the racer has accomplished his personal achievements he made throughout his life
and journey with the help of his loved ones, crew, friends, and family. By receiving the grand prize or trophy
as a champion, all of his hard work and sacrifices he made during his racing journey have not been in vain.
Due to his huge accomplishments, he has meet and exceeded his expectations and goals in life.

Values
1. Identify the times when you were happiest.

Last Day of working as an Intern at McDonald’s Golden Arches Development with the On-
boarding Team.
• What were you doing?
During my last day as an intern, I was helping with my fellow co-interns and the on-
boarding team in fulfilling our remaining tasks at Golden Arches Development in Dela Costa,
Makati by computing for the salary of McDo employees, checking their beneficiaries for
PhilHealth, attaching legal documents such as birth certificates, and other remaining tasks.

• What other factors contributed to your happiness?

First, my supportive classmates because they always had my back whenever I felt
overwhelmed by a lot of information about the organization, especially reading and computing
the salaries of employees. Second, my supervisor, Ms. Ivy, and her team in onboarding because
they would always go the extra mile to check up on our well-being and to ensure that we were
doing our duties correctly. Lastly, the working environment in McDo since it was pleasant and
warm. Despite having a professional atmosphere, it exuded a hint of light and fun in a rather
serious environment.

My Graduation Day in Senior High School (2018)

• What need or desire was fulfilled?
For me, during my high school years, I’ve always wanted to go up on stage and receive a
certain award for excellence. Because of what I wanted, I started working hard, being diligent
with my academics, set plans and timely schedules, developed a good attitude and behavior, and
engaged myself in school organizations. By modifying my behavior and changing who I am for
the better, I was able to achieve what I wanted back then, which was to successfully graduate
with flying colors and to end up being part of the excellent awardees in my batch.

• What other factors contributed to your feelings of fulfillment?

First, my family’s never ending love and support for me from kindergarten to this day.
Because of them, it significantly affected my need to change to become a better and responsible
person. Second, my trustworthy friends and classmates because whenever I was struggling with
a major problem in high school, they would always approach and lend a helping hand to get
myself back on track. Without these amazing and wonderful things, I wouldn’t be the person

Finding My Strength
VIA Character Strengths Survey Results:

Based on the VIA Character Strength Survey, my core strengths are Fairness, Prudence,
Perseverance, Judgment, and Honesty.

For Fairness, I can say that this is one of my core strengths because I always treat other people
or members without fear or favor whenever I meet or work with different people.

Second, as a Prudent person, I always make sure that my

reasons are firmly oriented towards the true good by making
careful and right decisions. Whenever I am in a team, I always
consider factors and make tough decisions that may not only affect
me, but also others. Before making a final decision, I ensure that
the choices I make will not compromise my moral compass or
values that I’ve learned and gained from education and my family.

Next, for me, I believe that my core strength is

Perseverance because I always try my very best to show and
continue to love and be strong for my friends and family, and
myself during times of tragedy, misfortune, and despair.

As for Judgment, before I make a final decision or say my opinions, I always ensure to validate
my reasons and understanding with credible facts and information. Given the important and factual
information, I may be able to judge someone or something without bias or degrading others’ reasons and
opinions. Moreover, I tend to make unbiased decisions by doing credible research and, at the same time,
seeking a common ground with others.

Lastly, Honesty is also one of my core strengths. In relation to my core strengths, judgment
and prudence, I always tell the truth based on what I know given the credible facts and information
available to me. Whenever I am asked the right and proper questions, I always make sure to tell the truth
and nothing else except for the truth.

MY MISSION

What you love:

What things have a special place in your heart? (Ex.: love for family, helping others, etc.)

My love for friends and family. Also, I love volunteering and being of service to others

What you’re good at:

• What are your skills or competencies? Express in verb form.

o Maintaining a rational and objective demeanor when faced with stressful

situations
o Making practical decisions to understand what is happening
o Resolving conflict situations by understanding problems and providing
solutions
o Listening to viewpoints, ideas, and opinions of others without bias.
o Proficient in public speaking

What the world needs:

• What does the world need right now? What problem do you want to help resolve?

One of the important things that the world needs right now is building and preserving
youth’s mental health during uncertain times. Due to the long-term impacts of the COVID-19
pandemic, it has negatively affected the youth in different ways and one of them is their mental
health. Most students, if not all, have been experiencing a lot of anxiety, stress, and depression.

• Who exactly do you want to help (e.g. Filipino families, young aspiring leaders)?

Given the problem, I would like to help college students with regards to preserving and
maintaining their mental health and well-being. This is because, according to research, young
college students are the ones who are experiencing more pressing issues and struggling more
with their physical and mental health problems compared to others in midst of the pandemic
(Yang et al., 2021).

• Why do you think that is what the world needs right now?

The world needs this right now because our mental, physical health, and well-being is
really a serious matter. It significantly affects how we think, feel, and behave in our daily
lives. Moreover, these are important resources that would help a person to live a full and
healthy life. Given the negative impact caused by the pandemic, young adults nowadays have
been causing immense stress, social anxiety, and more serious mental health problems.

Approximately 8,444 young people have experienced serious anxiety (27%) and
depression (15%) in the first months of the pandemic (UNICEF, 2020). In addition, approximately
73% of young participants have reported they are in need of immediate help regarding their
mental and physical well-being.

• What can you contribute in responding to the need?

Given this need, I may be able to contribute by working as an intern or a community

social worker in a youth organization. This can give me the opportunity to reach out and
volunteer for social projects that would help promote good mental health and well-being for the
youth.

On behalf of the organization, I could volunteer as a public/webinar speaker to talk

about helpful and practical ways, as well as coping mechanisms to take care of their mental
health. Given that one of my skills is resolving conflict and listening to other people without bias,
I may be able to consult and teach them how to manage their own conflict situation that would
affect their mental and physical well-being. Furthermore, I may respond to this particular need
by developing a potential mental health awareness program or project that would benefit not
only the organization, but also to teenagers and young adults in promoting good mental health
and well-being.

WRITING THE MISSION STATEMENT

the actions that you are to take and to include your mission statement. But before you continue,
take a moment to reflect upon yourself by answering the questions below.

Think of each verb, one at a time, in a sentence with your core values. Repeat the
sentence out loud, and ask yourself the following questions.

• What about this verb do I like? Serve, Support, Inspire, Making a difference, and Helping
Society
o Is this what I really do or want to do? YES
o Is this really what I’m about? YES
o Does this ring true for me? YES
o Is this the way for me to add value to the world? YES

• What do you think are the core values of the Mirabel Madrigal? How do you say so?

1. Hard-Work
Mirabel Madrigal is a responsible person since she helps the family with their daily needs
even if she is not asked to do so. Moreover, she would constantly overwork herself in order to
prove herself that she belongs to the Madrigal Family and to make them proud..

2. Family-Orientedness
To me, Maribel always puts her family first before her own because she loves her family
so much and she would do anything to help them in every way she can. Moreover, she would
always worry more about the well-being of her family instead of her own. To avoid extra
burdens to the family, she would always hide her own actual feelings and avoid expressing much
of herself freely.

3. Love
Despite most of her family members having superpowers, she still continues to love them
no matter what. It is the mutual love of her parents that made Mirable love each and every of her
relatives despite their differences. As shown in the film, we can see that Mirabel truly loves her
family by protecting them from losing their powers. Moreover, it is her love and support of the
family that made her who she is and what empowers her to keep everyone together.

4. Faith
Faith is one the core strengths of Mirable because it is her strong faith that keeps her
family together and avoids falling apart. Despite being the only family member without any
powers, she tries to give herself and her family hope that everything will eventually be fine and
her needs will be fulfilled.

5. Truth-Seeking
For me, Maribel’s core strength is seeking for the truth when she realizes Abuela’s
shortcomings and wrong mindset in taking care of the family by pressuring them and expecting
everything to be perfect. Also, she learned the truth that her aunt is hurting her family because
all she ever wanted was to preserve her family legacy and to never lose another family again as
she did in the past. Due to Abuela’s pain from her past trauma, Maribel was able to learn and
understand the truth about her aunt.

• Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the character in relation to their own
perception and their superpower:

o Were his/her strengths always strengths in all contexts? How about their
weaknesses?
1. Strengths
A. Brave
Despite having no powers in the family, Mirabel takes courage in facing life’s
challenges, hardships, and difficulties ahead no matter how big the odds are. Moreover, as seen
from the film, Maribel uses her physical strength or bravery when she was in search for Bruno’s
last vision.
Not only did she use her physical strength but also moral courage. This is because
Mirabale had the courage to stand up against Abuela about her wrong mindset towards the
Madrigal family, and how she severely controls and pressures them to be perfect.

B. Humility
Maribel’s strength is humility because she is really compassionate and caring for the
well-being of others and her family. Because of her humbleness, she was able to empathize and
connect with other people. Moreover, she always put her family first before her own.

C. Love
Lastly, Love is one of the strengths of Mirabel because it is her love and faith that binds
and empowers the family to stay together and remain strong. Moreover, at the end of the film,
we can see that Maribel was able to love and accept herself for who she really is. Because of
that, it saved her family and her home from tearing apart. Maribel’s family needed love and
support and, because of that, she was able to give them what they needed by showing empathy
and her willingness to accept others despite their differences.

2. Weaknesses
A. Fearful
Given without having a miracle or superpowers, Maribel is afraid of not being able to
prove her worth to the Madrigal family, especially Alma Abuela. Because of the fear of being
powerless and an outcast, Mirabel tries so hard to make her family proud. However, her fear
caused her to overwork constantly and ended up ruining everyone’s personal plans or
activities. Also, her fear cost her family’s mental state and well-being when she tried to help
everyone she could to save her family, the miracle ,and her home.

B. Carelessness
One of her weaknesses is being careless because Maribel was not mindful of her actions
and how it would negatively affect the family. Despite her taking risks and searching for the
truth, her carelessness led to make everyone’s day feel worse.

C. Overwork
Constant working is one of the weaknesses of Maribel because she always tries her best
to prove her worth to the family, especially Alma Abuela. Because she wanted to be useful, she
likes to overwork and force herself to help others even though it was unnecessary.

• What does it say about the existence, balance, and appropriateness of the S&W?
There is a balance between Maribel’s strengths and weaknesses. For example, her
strength of being brave or taking risks can also be her weakness because of carelessness. The
more she takes a lot of risks in her life, the more she’ll end up hurting someone else by being
careless or negligent of one’s well-being

Also, Maribel’s humbleness can also be a weakness by being self-critical. The more she
focuses on other people’s needs, the less she takes care of herself and well-being. Because she
did not want to be a burden to the family, she does not make them worry about her problem by
simply hiding them.

Lastly, her love for her family can be seen as weakness through fear. This is because the
more she loves and cares for her family, the more Maribel is concerned that things might go
wrong within the family. Because of this, this led to her to do unexplainable things to make
things right.

• Why do you resonate with this character?

I resonate with this character because my core values determine who I am as a person and
aids me in distinguishing what is right and wrong for me and others. One of the core values that I
resonate with this character is Hard Work because this core values helps me to achieve my goals
by being a responsible person, promoting good work ethic, and taking initiative. As for my
strength, Humility is the one that resonates the most with this character because I always think of
the needs of other people. By being of service to others, I may be able to provide immediate
assistance to people who are in need, as well as accomplish certain tasks or duties that need to be
done. Given my core strengths and values, these help me in achieving my goals by knowing the
right path to choose and discovering the right capabilities necessary to reach those goals.
Relationship with the
Self
Think of a metaphor for yourself, and explain why you chose that.

I am a night owl because I like to keep on working and staying active at night. I often stay
up at night not only to finish my daily work assignment but also to check and monitor my
surroundings to be aware of what is happening. In the middle of the night, I always have the
habit of checking my surroundings if there are unexpected occurrences or problems currently
happening. As a night owl, it helps me stay up late at night, make solutions and prepare for the
worse.

Even though I tend to wake up early in the morning to go to work or online classes, I
often wake up in the evening and do my best work throughout the night. Second, I am a night
owl person because I tend to think a lot of things about upcoming assignments, next day’s online
classes and meetings, family problems, and others. Throughout the night, I try to think and
find ways to solve these concerns and make certain preparations that would be enough for me
to stay calm, to be certain, and to be ready for anything. Thus, I tend to be very productive
during evenings.
1. Recall Carl Rogers Self-Concept, research at least 3 ways how someone can be
congruent (self-image + ideal self).
Congruence is the extent of overlap between one’s self-image and ideal-self. Thus, the
person achieves self-actualization as his or her level of congruence increases. There are ways on
how one can achieve a higher level of congruence in life.
First, to achieve congruence, it is important to set our own realistic goals and objectives
(Shaalaa, n.d.). This is because setting clear and realistic goals can help us live a life that is in
line with our beliefs and values we uphold. By setting our personal goals, we’re able to know
and understand ourselves better in terms of our own personalities and actions, as well as
considering our own motivations.
Moreover, goal setting provides a level of focus and direction on what we truly want to
achieve in life (Lynch, 2021). Without setting our own realistic goals, we aimlessly waste all of
our resources such as time, energy, and efforts. Thus, it’s important to have attainable goals and
objectives in order to progress ourselves in accomplishing our main goals and tailoring them
with our behaviors and actions as we progress and move forward in life.
Second, assessing our strengths and weaknesses is important in being congruent with
ourselves (Shaalaa, n.d.). By identifying what we are good at and what we lack, we may be able
to take necessary steps towards improving ourselves and changing our mistakes for our own
personal and professional development (Ramsay, 2019). By knowing our strengths, we may be
able to identify our unique skills and capabilities that would aid us in choosing our career
interests and opportunities. By knowing our weaknesses, we can better understand what restricts
us from being our best version of ourselves.
Third, we must have a sense of responsibility and commitment in order to be congruent
with ourselves because it drives us to become larger than ourselves, be successful, and to give us
a sense of purpose (Shaalaa, n.d.). By being the best version of ourselves, we can provide our
most help to others. By having a sense of responsibility and commitment, we become self-
motivated to begin taking action towards achieving our personal goals, what we want, and who
we really want to be in the future. Moreover, it helps us to stay focused on taking small, yet
progressive, steps towards accomplishing what we’re aiming for in life. .
Fourth, to achieve self-congruence, we have to be flexible in adjusting our set goals and
to learn from our past mistakes (Shaalaa, n.d.). By being flexible in adjusting our personal
goals, we are able to shape ourselves into the person we want to be (Lynch, 2021). Moreover,
these will help us shape our character by improving in certain areas that we want to improve. By
setting important goals, we may be able to measure our personal and professional development
as we continue to strive and progress for this.
2. What are your realizations?
With all of these in mind, I’ve realized that a person can find ways to improve and
achieve congruence between his ideal-self and real-self. Moreover, by achieving congruence, we
have the capacity to develop in different ways according to our goals, personalities and actions,
beliefs and values, and our motivations in life. I’ve also realized that one of the most important
methods to achieve congruence is first to define what our goals and objectives are in life. By
first knowing what we truly want or what we aim for in life, we may be able to know more and
realize our unique traits as a person. The more we foster and embrace this method, the more we
reach our own personal and professional success as we continually progress and develop in life.
If we’re able to commit ourselves and encourage ourselves to take action to achieve our
important goals, we can achieve self congruence through a continual process of, but not limited
to, defining our own personal goals, knowing our strengths and weaknesses, accepting our
imperfections, encouraging ourselves to take action and responsibilities, and lastly adjusting our
personal restrictions and learning from our mistakes. The more we put these methods into
action, the more we become true to ourselves in achieving what we really want and who we want
to be according to goals in life tailored to our beliefs and values.

Emotional
Management
1. Answer (150-200 words): Why must you be grateful for all kinds of emotions? When can you
say that an emotion is no longer helpful, and what can you do to address it? Relate this more
to your personality, personal experiences, etc.

Being grateful for our emotions helps us respond to others’ emotions in an appropriate
manner, as well as establish deeper and more meaningful relationships with friends, family, and
loved ones. In my case, as a sociable and charismatic person, I often engage myself in
meaningful interactions and connections by being socially aware, being of service, and
compassionate to other people’s problems and needs at any cost.

Emotions are no longer helpful whenever we lose ourselves to hate, anger, jealousy and
fear. Whenever these bad or negative emotions cloud our judgements and decisions, we end up
hurting ourselves, making careless and bad decisions in life. Thus, this may negatively affect the
way we think, feel, and behave towards others negatively.

To address this, I must be aware of my bad emotions to identify better when to release or
repress them at the right place and the right time. Second, I must not blame other people for
losing control of my hateful and rageful emotions. Lastly, I must be reasonable with myself and
with my emotions by acknowledging my emotions as natural and understandable. By accepting
my emotions, I may be able to find better ways to make myself feel better and move forward.

2. Make a playlist with at least five songs that keep you in a healthy disposition or have helped
you go through the tough times.

1. Song to Siren by Rose Betts

2. Stand by You by Rachel Platten
3. Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi
4. Under Pressure by Queen
5. Lean on Me by Michael Bolton

3. Write a short description of how each song has helped you with emotion management. Relate
this to the concepts learned in class

1. Song to Siren by Rose Betts:

This song helps manage my emotions by reframing my thoughts and feelings in a

light and less stressful manner due to its gentle and slow-paced rhythm. It aids me to
control my emotions by acknowledging and being reasonable with it. By just listening to
the song, it really makes me see and understand my mistakes, as well as telling me what
to do to control my feelings better, how to put them in check and to never repeat the
same mistakes again.

2. Stand by You by Rachel Platten:

This song helps me bring out positive emotions by feeling good, hopeful, and
happy for myself through tough times.
3. Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi:

This song manges to control my emotions by seeing things in optimistic and a

hopeful perspective towards life and my future career despite hurdles and challenges
ahead. Also, this song relates to one of our concepts in our discussion, particularly
Resilience and Self-Efficacy. This is because it encourages us to be resilient and
persevere through difficult or dire situations no matter what.

4. Under Pressure by Queen:

Furthermore, Under Pressure by Queen also contributes to my emotional

management because it not only encourages me to persevere in the face of difficulty or
tragedy but also to feel love and care for one another by helping each other and being
empathetic. Through our emotions of love, it encourages me to care for others who are
struggling and facing terrible pressures alone in life. Despite being under pressure, it
tells me that I should continue to love, endure the pain and hardship, and to be resilient
for our loved one for better or for worse.

5. Lean on Me by Michael Bolton:

Lastly, the song, Lean on Me, helps me to be aware of my emotions and to keep
them in check always by accepting that I have problems or issues that can only be
resolved through the support of a friend, family, or loved one. This song somehow
relates to one of our discussions on the purpose of emotions, which is
Socialization. Expressing or showing our emotions to others can help us empathize with
them and understand how they are feeling. Because of this, this song encourages me to
emotionally seek support or help from others whenever I lack physical or mental
strength.

Relationships
• Love Language

Based on the love language result, my love language is spending quality time with
friends, family, and loved ones.
• Communication Style

Based on the communication assessment style, I’ve learned that my type

of communication style is communicating or interacting with people (PE).
• DISC Personality

Based on the DISC assessment result, I’ve also discovered that I am a formalist.

o Do you agree with this?

Based on this type of love language, I agree with the result because I do love
spending quality time with my friends and family because it creates a strong emotional
bond among us and helps me improve my communication and understanding with one
another. Also, spending quality time with my family provides utmost support whenever I
lack physical and mental strength.

Based on this type of communication style, I agree with the result since I am
outgoing, enthusiastic, motivated, and focused on establishing better relationships with
other people.

Based on the DISC assessment result, I don’t agree with being a formalist since I
am not a perfectionist. I sometimes make mistakes and then learn from them in order to
become a better version of myself. Moreover, I tend to not set high standards for myself
and others because I don’t want anyone being terribly pressured or struggling in meeting
those high expectations.

However, I agree that I am a type of a formalist who is reliable and dependable

because I convince others by providing them with credible data and information, and
logical reasoning in order to support my claims and answers. Also, I agree with being a
sort of a formalist in terms of neatness and organization. Whenever my workplace is
neat and well organized, I do work on my assignments productively and smoothly
without any mess or distractions.
o How does this manifest when you are working with a group?

Since I want to someday lead and interact with different people both mutually and
professionally, I’ll have to spend time with my team members to exercise my intrapersonal skills
and to communicate with people effectively. This can be done by providing them assistance
whenever they need me in addressing an issue or problem. Moreover, I’ll have the opportunity
to join in collaborations to interact more with the members.

Given that people-oriented individuals emphasize on preserving relationships and

understanding others’ feelings, I am very relational in my interaction with other
people. Moreover, I will someday have to lead others by example and manage ordinary
situations with compassion, dedication, and care. When working with a group, I can
engage myself in meaningful interactions or connections by being socially aware,
compassionate and helping other members’ problems at any cost.

Given that I am a logical and dependable person, I always ensure to validate my

reasons and understanding with credible facts and information before I make a final
decision or say my opinions. Given the important and factual information, I may be able
to judge someone or something without bias or degrading others’ reasons and opinions.

• Who are the most important people in your life (e.g. family, role models, friends,
inspiration, etc.)? Show photos and explain why they are important to you.

The most important people in my life are my family because they always provide
their love and support through difficult times. My family has raised me in an
environment that is full of love, respect, compassion and moral values.
Despite our imperfections, shortcomings and failures, we still recognize our
mutual love and sacrifices by preserving good moral principles and being kind and fair to
one another.

Learning Logs
TOPIC : Happiness, Fulfillment, and Success

1. What new learning did you gain from the most recent lessons?

A new learning that I have gained and realized is that there’s a difference between
happiness and success. Happiness is the fundamental aspect of personal development
because it is about making the right choices in order to achieve our ultimate
goal. Moreover, I’ve learned that happiness is a journey because, as stated from our
recent discussion, it is about taking every step of the way while making progress as we
go through life.
On the other hand, Success emphasizes on achieving our goals through
motivation and willingness to work hard in achieving our goals.

2. What one word or concept do you remember the most? Why?

The BE-DO-HAVE model is what I remembered the most because this principle
tells and asks who we want to be, what we want to do, and the things that we want to
have as a person. Moreover, this principle helps us to know ourselves better by first
knowing who we want to be, believing and knowing our identity completely and
sincerely. This principle reminds and tells us something that resides within ourselves
because it is a trait or value that we bring in everything we do. For example: If you want
to be a chef, then be a chef first. This goes the same for being a singer or songwriter,
dancer, actor, and etc. By believing and knowing it to the fullest, you can be who you
really want to be.

3. As a management student, how would the lessons in class help you?

As a management student, these lessons in class would guide me in establishing

better relationships with co-workers and employees. By building good and honest
relationships, all of us become committed and motivated to work together for the
common good, improve our job performance, and encourage each other to have a strong
team collaboration which is vital to the success of the company.

4. If there is a question or an insight you'd like to share, what would it be? (I will
give my response to this upon checking)

An insight that I would like to share is that to be happy is to appreciate and be

thankful for what we have and to the people that we love.
TOPIC : Mission and Purpose in Life

• What new learning did you gain from the most recent lessons?

A new learning I gain from our lessons on Meaningful Life is that we should always
be happy and thankful in our everyday life despite tragedy and life’s hardships along the
way. Moreover, a meaningful life is to live with a life with meaning or purpose. By
knowing our purpose in life, we may be able to know our true worth or happiness and
how it may help others as well.

• What one word or concept do you remember the most? Why?

The IKIGAI because this concept helps us discover our purpose in life and to do
something that would give our life worth or meaning for us to be happy. Based on this
concept, there are important components to achieve a happy and purposeful life. First,
a pleasant life is something that we love and enjoy daily to satisfy ourselves. Second, a
meaningful life is something that society needs because each and every one of us has a
contribution to the greater good. Third, a good life is being able to use your skills for
enrichment or exerting your time and effort on improving your skills and talents. Lastly,
it is something that pays well because realistically we need money in order to survive
and live a comfortable life.

Overall, IKIGAI is about being truly happy with our life that would make us enjoy
the things that we love, help us know what skills we’re good at, and, at the same time, it
pays well for us and serves the needs of society.

• As a management student, how would the lessons in class help you?

As a management student, these lessons would help me determine what skills I’m
good at, as well as help me hone my skills. It would aid me also in choosing a career that
I can enjoy and show interest in. Moreover, these lessons would help me learn how to
adapt to the changes in company culture while managing a hostile and remote working
environment. Also, it would help me improve and advance my skills with an optimistic
perspective towards life and my future career.

• If there is a question or an insight you'd like to share, what would it be? (I will give my
response to this upon checking)

For me, I think achieving a meaningful life is to make a few sacrifices along the
way. Moreover, we have to deprioritize certain things we desire or things that aren’t
important to us given that we don’t have the luxury of time to accommodate and
prioritize all the things we want. Because of this, I think we have to lose something in
order to gain something to have a meaningful life.
TOPIC: Vision, and Goal Setting

1. What new learning did you gain from the most recent lessons?

In relation to our discussion on Tolman, a learning that I gained was that we can
be the best versions of ourselves by finding our right paths in life and educating
ourselves to further develop our cognitive maps and latent learning. We may not see
the significance of our learnings now, but eventually it will be a rewarding experience
once we demonstrate or benefit from it in the future.

2. What one word or concept do you remember the most? Why?

From our discussion, I remember most about Tolman’s Sunburst Apparatus. Aside
from Tolman’s rat experiment, this concept represents our growth and learning
development as we go through life. Learning happens in everyday life, but we tend not to
see the significance of it until something motivates us to demonstrate it (Latent
Learning). An example of this would be our education. As we learn and understand each
lesson or module of the subject, we realize the significance of it once we have already
completed at the end of each module or even the whole subject. But most importantly,
we really get to see the importance and benefits of our educational learnings when we
are already working in our respective fields or careers in the future.

Overall, the interpretation of this concept is that the more we learn different things
about the world, we are able to develop our mental or cognitive maps, as well as
developing and honing certain skills that would aid us find the right path in achieving our
goals in life.

3. As a management student, how would the lessons in class help you?

As a management student, this lesson would help me to determine the right

decisions and create alternative solutions to address ill-structured problems that I might
face in the future. Moreover, these lessons would help me understand the strategies of
organizations, as well as aid me in determining the proper organizational decisions and
performance outcomes.

4. If there is a question or an insight you'd like to share, what would it be?

An insight that I would like to share is that life is a learning experience. We often
make many mistakes in our lives, but we always have the courage to learn from them
and pick up important lessons along the way. Thus, the reason why we fall is to learn
how to pick ourselves up despite life’s hardships and challenges.
TOPIC: Emotion Management

1. What are your realizations related to the lesson?

I’ve learned and realized that emotion is the awareness of our consciousness that
is defined and characterized by a certain physical or physiological arousal, a certain
behavior that reveals our feeling to the outside world, and inner awareness of our
feelings.

Furthermore, I’ve realized there are different concepts and theories of emotion
which are James-Lange, Cannon-Bard, and Schacter-Singer theory. The James-Lange
theory suggests that a physiological response leads to recognition of an emotion. Next,
the Cannon-Bard theory states that the physiological response and the interpretation
of the emotion happen instantaneously. Lastly, the Schacter-Singer theory states that
the physiological response and the interpretation of the physical response, based on the
environmental context, must both occur before the emotion itself is experienced.

In addition to the lesson on Emotions, I’ve also realized that gender and
culture can affect our emotions in terms of cultural standards and expectations for
masculine and feminine behavior. This may as well include our attitudes, actions, and
personality traits that are associated with being male or female in that culture. Other
factors that affect our emotions, but are not limited to, mood, weather, health and stress,
drugs, food, hormones, age, and environment.

As for the discussion on Stress, it is a physical, emotional, and behavioral response

to certain events that are perceived threatening or challenging. Stress may include
physical fatigue, recurring illness, mood swings, depression, anger, memory and mental
concentration problems. On the other hand, stressors are stress-causing events or
events that cause stress coming from either external or internal stressors. The external
stressors may include catastrophe, major life events, work or school, financial problems,
family affairs, and an oppressive environment. For internal stressors, it may include
chronic worrying, pessimism, negative self-talk, rigid thinking, unrealistic expectations,
and all-or-nothing behavior.

2. What resolutions have you made in terms of managing emotions?

My resolution in terms of managing my emotions would be to express my

emotions freely and physically by doing home workouts and communicating with other
people. Second, my resolution of managing my emotions would be to do a concentrative
meditation by practicing yoga. Practicing yoga would help me be in a state of relaxation
that could help me in coping with my physical or physiological reactions to a stressful
situation. Another way of managing my emotions would be knowing when to express
my emotions at the right place and at the right time so that I could better be aware of my
personal feelings and my surroundings, as well as other people’s emotions.
3. Optional: If there is a question or an insight you'd like to share, what would it be? (I
will give my response to this upon checking)

As of the moment, I have no available questions yet. Thank you for the lesson,
Ms. Kyra!

TOPIC: Time Management

1. What new learning did you gain from the most recent lessons?

First, I’ve learned that, based on the quote of Mr. Henry David Thoreau, we have
the autonomy to create our own path and to chart our own course in life. This is
because there are no such things as gold standards or secret messages of achieving what
we aim for in life. It is truly up to us on how we can achieve our personal goals and
successes in life. Also, it’s up to us to decide when to start taking action towards
reaching our personal goals and who we want to become in the future. Thus, the way we
want to live our lives and to achieve success must not always be defined by what society
expects of us. The key to achieve great success starts within ourselves by making the
time, taking action, and setting realistic goals.

Furthermore, I’ve also learned that time management emphasizes prioritizing

ourselves. By allocating and managing time for ourselves, we can prioritize what we
love, identify what skills we have and lack, and find ways to further improve ourselves
by exerting time and effort on enriching our skills and talents. Also, time management is
having different ways or developing strategies on how we make our work suitable into
our personal lives. Thus, time management really helps us to become flexible and
adaptable to ever-changing situations.

2. What one word or concept do you remember the most? Why?

The concepts that I remember are the different Procrastination Styles by Linda
Sapadin which are Perfectionist, Dreamer, Worrier, Crisis Maker, Defier, and
Overdoer. Some of these concepts relate to me since I am often a Worrier and an
Overdoer. I am often a worrier because I tend to feel nervous or fearful of certain things
that I have no knowledge or no control of. Thus, this has affected my decisions on
delivering requirements or project outputs.
Moreover, I am also an Overdoer because I always do my best to provide
immediate assistance to my fellow classmates, co-workers, and my bosses in every way I
can despite having limitations.

3. As a management student, how would the lessons in class help you?

As a management student, these lessons would help me find alternatives to

manage my time efficiently, as well as avoiding procrastination in order to improve my
personal development. Given that my procrastination styles are Worrier and
Overdoer, I have to develop strategies and steps that can help me accomplish certain
tasks on time without incurring many delays. Furthermore, these lessons will help me
identify my personal strengths and weaknesses, set goals, create plans and to-do lists for
each activity, and delegate tasks efficiently by managing things one at a time.

4. If there is a question or an insight you'd like to share, what would it be?

An insight that I would like to share is that the challenge of time management is
managing ourselves since it is really up to us on how we make use and allocate our
work, time, and resources into our personal lives, as well as how we can balance them in
a way that does not cause us too much stress.
Also, an insight that I would like to share also is that it is important for us to
manage certain things we can control and, at the same time, accept some things that we
can't control. Given this, it is important for us to invest our time and resources on things
we can change by working ourselves hard towards accomplishing our goals or things we
really aim for in life. At the same time, we have to understand that there are some
things we cannot change; therefore, we must accept them by adapting to the ever-
changing circumstances.

TOPIC: Relationships

1.) What new learning did you gain from the most recent lessons?

A new learning I gained most from our lessons on Closure and Moving On
was that closure is really accepting yourself, letting go of your anger and hate
about a certain situation through acceptance. Through acceptance, we stop
ourselves from fighting reality for what it is even though we may not like.
Moreover, closure is about making a choice since it is really up to us
whether we should find answers to the problem or have the courage to accept
reality and move on. Through acceptance, we may be able to move on
and figure things out on how to make ourselves better without clinging to the
past and false hopes.
When we or other people try to move on from a difficult situation, it is
important to seek help and support from our friends and family in order to heal
and relieve our painful feelings.

2.) What one word or concept do you remember the most? Why?

A concept that I remember most was the theory of triangular love because
it exhibits 3 different components that would help us strengthen our
understanding and knowledge about love.
The first kind of love is intimacy. Intimacy is the warmth and emotional
bond amongst people, loved ones, and friends. The first kind of love involves the
feeling of closeness and connectedness, as well as sharing your inner world and
vulnerabilities with each other.
The second kind of love is Passion. Passion is a surge of feelings and
desires that would cause significant physical human attraction, romance, and
passionate love.
The last and third type of love is Commitment. Commitment is one of the
most vital components of love because it involves maintaining a strong
relationship with your partner or friends for the longest time.
Overall, the theory of triangular love shows the interaction among these 3
components. This is because when two people like each other or have greater
intimacy with each other, these people share their feelings, passion and maintain
their closeness, or bondness with each other. Thus, friends or lovers are
committed to one another, as well as make plans in order to maintain their
relationship with each other.

3.) As a management student, how would the lessons in class help you?

As a manager, these lessons in class would help me in the future when I

start working and collaborating with different employees, teams, and co-workers
in an organization. By establishing better relationships, I may be able to
understand and interact deeply with other people. By having mutual respect and
through good communication, I may be able to develop my personal relationship
or business friendship with my co-workers. Not only to develop or preserve
relationships with others, but also increase involvement and responsiveness with
my partners and co-workers in order to authentically connect with them.

4.) If there is a question or an insight you'd like to share, what would it be?

In a relationship, there must be willingness and perseverance amongst

partners. To express our authentic love, one must be willing to sacrifice certain
things for the betterment of the significant other and endure the ups and downs
of the relationship.
