Questions for Research:

1. What are the indications / purposes of fecal staining methods?


 It allows for easier detection and identification of cysts and trophozoites, as well as a
permanent record of the protozoa encountered as well as to aid in the diagnosis of
some digestive disorders.
2. What are the measures in making an ideal fecal smear?
 Using a clean microscope slide, smear a little amount of feces. Add a few drops of
water or physiological saline to the mix. Cover the smear with a coverslip. The feces
should not be left in a lump in the center of the coverslip, but should be evenly
distributed to allow the microscope illumination to shine through.
3. What are the advantages of fecal staining over the wet smears?
 Direct fecal smears are best for diagnosing protozoal parasites with motile
trophozoite stages that travel through the stool. Coccidia and Giardia sp. cysts and
oocysts On direct smears, it can be noticed.
