Children learn what the animal eats, where it lives, what it looks like and what animal
family it belongs to, as well as some quirky and funny facts about it. The reader then
reveals by pulling up a tab on the opposite page, a creature suspended on a sturdy
but invisible plastic cord. The creature appears in a whirlwind of spiralling paper at

The "About Habitats" series by Cathryn and John Sill is informative and eye catching.
Kids will enjoy learning about habitats around the globe, including those near their
own backyards. Each page contains simple text describing the plants and animals
living in a particular habitat. This text is suited for elementary-level readers. More
detailed information, which is suited for more advanced readers, can be found in a
section at the end of the book. The paintings throughout the book are beautifully
done, and show the types of animals and plants that live in that habitat. Most
paintings contain multiple animals and it is fun for children to spot and try to identify
them all.
