AMERICAN DREAM

American Dream is an absolute trust or belief that every person can succeed in life especially in a

society where everyone is exposed in an upward mobility regardless of the birth background or social

class where he or she was raised. This Dream is believed to be attained through hard work, devotion and

sacrifice as well as taking risks but not by chance.

As per my understanding of the course, American Dream is not achievable for every individual in

the American society because of the following reasons; 1.) Unlike in the past where one having a college

degree had high chances of making the ends meet-in the current century much more is needed for one

to be considered worth earning the right to do achieve the dream. Another reason why the dream has

remained unachievable for many people is because of the struggles in the current society ( Nelson,

(2020). Poverty is one of the struggles that most Americans that hiders the achievement of the dream

since most of them lack finances to support themselves in their daily plans. Education,  political

instability, poor economy and other global factors are other obstacles that have hindered most

Americans from achieving their dreams.

John Lennon is one of the individuals who tried to fight for his American Dream of success and

other than his inspiration melody there were other efforts towards achieving greater dream. Lennon

played at fundraisers to earn finances for various things to help the society in realizing their worthy and

ability as visionary people. His ideal thought as exposed in the lyrics was that everyone can live unbiased

and inspired to make a better life ( Setyoko, 2018). However, a problem came when Richard Nixon was

elected in office. John Lennon wanted by the FBI and was to be deported to his country, Britain but He

acted in a nonviolent way that shade light on the essence of peace among people. One of his lyrics

concerning harmony was "give peace a chance," that he wrote with his wife Yoko about the things in the
AMERICAN DREAM

world and how most people were talking about some other problems other than focusing in promoting

peace in the society.
