Basic Electrical and Electronics Quiz-4 Max. Time: 20 mins

1) A110-V rms, 60-Hz source is applied to a load impedance Z. The apparent power entering the load
is 120 VA at a power factor of 0.707 lagging.
(a) Calculate the real and active power. [4]
(b) Find the rms current supplied to the load. [2]

2) The apparent power delivered to a balanced Delta-connected load is 30 kVA at a lagging power
factor of 0.72. The line voltage at the load is VL = 2.4 kV rms. Find the phase impedance ZD of the
load. [4]

Solution:
1) a. P= S x pf = 120 x 0.707 = 84 W
Q= S x sin (45) = 84 VAr

b. I= S/V = 120/110 = 1.09 A

2) Z=3VL/S = 576 < 43.9° = 415 + j 399 Ω
