TO BE GOING TO + INFINITIVE

We use to be going to + infinitive for:

- future plans and intentions.


My sister is going to adopt a child.
- predictions about the future, when there is evidence that something will happen in the
near future.
I think they are going to win. (They’re playing very well.)
Look at the clouds! It’s going to rain.

FUTURE SIMPLE

Affirmative
I/he/she/it/we/you/they + will study
Negative
I/he/she/it/we/you/they + will not (won’t) + study
Interrogative
will + I/he/she/it/we/you/they + study?
shall I/we help? (offers or suggestions)

USE
We use future simple for:

- instant decisions.
I haven’t seen Tom today. I will call him.
- predictions, promises, threats, warnings, requests, hopes and offers.
You’ll love the film. (prediction)
I won’t tell anyone where you are. (promise)
I’ll carry that bag for you. (offer)
A: I don’t understand this exercise. Will you help me with it? (request)
B: Of course! I’ll explain it to you. (offer)

- use shall with I and we for offers and suggestions when they are in questions.
Shall I help you with your homework? (offer)
Shall we eat out tonight? (suggestion)
