Global Research Project Lesson Plan

Outline
Opening -The objective of the Global Research project is to help students
gain an understanding of how different we are as a global society,
yet within these differences, there is a lot of similarities. I want this
project to help students understand that as global citizens, it is
important to be open to learn about our differences, and finding
connections within those differences.
-In opening before introducing this project, I will ask students to
first explore their prior knowledge on this topic. I will open
discussion for any students who have traveled outside our state
our country and share an experience with individuals from
different cultures or backgrounds.
-To wrap up this discussion I will demonstrate the Google site
called Art & Culture. We will review its features and how easy it is
to search any country and be flooded with great pictures and
content about the topic of choice. I will first show them whole
group and then allow for students to explore the site with a
partner.
Body Day 1:
o Students have past experience using google sites but before I
introduce the project, we will review the main features/layout
of a google site template.
o Next, we will review the project directions page. The first step
for students is choosing a country. This will be their homework
on day 1.
o Without knowing their country yet we will as a class also
review how to use CultureGrams. Students also have experience
with this site from history and English class. We will do a few
mock searching to make sure the class is comfortable.
o To end the first day of this project, students will get out their
computers and find a layout and theme they like for their
website.
Day 2-3:
o On day 2 and 3, now they students have picked a country for
their homework they are ready to first pick the four topics they
want to explore.
o They will record their country name and four topics on
assessment rubric (below). This way when I come around, I
can see their topics and ask questions accordingly.
o The rest of class they will record notes on a blank Word
document or our class journal.
o For homework the next two nights they will be thinking about
their country experience and if they will record, perform or
snap a photo.
 Personal Experience:
-Evidence of Experience will be show in a variety of ways
depending on the experience each student selects.
-For example, if a student chooses a recipe to make their
evidence will be the recipe ingredients and directions.
-Or if a student chooses a song or dance, they will include the
website they found this being explained or performed

Day 4:
o Students will spend day 4 making final touches on their site.
o Students will have a one-on-one meeting with me to review
their site and their personal experience. They will receive
feedback from me and make the necessary changes on the site
and any other comments or suggestions.
o In our meeting together we will discuss which type of
experience demonstration they are choosing, and we will
discuss questions about this.
-Demonstration of Experience be turned in as one of three ways.
-Picture, video or in class demonstration/performance.
-For example, if a student chooses a recipe, they may bring in
the item or take a picture of the item with them in the picture. If
they choose a song or dance, they can either show the class or
share a video recording.

-Students will have two day of homework time to finish the project
and experience.
-On day 7 students will start to share their site and
demonstrations. Depending on time, this could take between 1 and
2 days.
Closing In closing, students will in small group rotations be able to explore
their peers’ websites. This time will allow them to ask questions
and record their “wonders” and “notices” in our class journals.
After students have had time to explore their peers project, we will
end the class project with a whole group discussion. Students will
be able to share their thoughts and what they learned.

-This is an incredible resource when trying to research the
culture of any country. It is also a great source of inspiration when
students are designing their own site.
