Reflection on Statistical Analysis of Data

Significance test is a statistical test used to determine whether there is a significant

difference between two or more sets of data at a defined probability level. To determine
if two numbers are different, a statistical test must be conducted to provide evidence. To
conduct a test of statistical significance, the first step is to state the hypothesis. The
claim tested by a statistical test is called the null hypothesis. This test is generally
denoted as H0, it proposes that there is no relationship between the variables. The
usual method is to test the null at some significance level (most often, 0.05). The
alternative hypothesis is denoted as H1 or Ha, this test is the claim that researchers are
actually trying to prove is true. On the other hand, statistical method consists of
formulas, models, and techniques which are used in statistical analysis of data. Different
methods like mean, standard deviation, regression, hypothesis testing, and sample size
determination are used to perform statistical analysis.
As a medical technology student, significance testing and statistical methods of analysis
is important because they provide an approximate description of the phenomena. These
methods helps and guides students and healthcare professionals to make decisions
and predictions based on data. In the medical field, I can apply my knowledge in my
chosen course by effectively conducting research, analyzing data from medical
experiments, interpret the results from the analyses to draw meaningful conclusions
form the data collected, further develop critical thinking and analytical skills, and provide
accurate diagnosis to improve patient care. I may be a student now but as I learn and
discover new things, I want to help and share my knowledge to improve the country’s
healthcare system that will lead to the citizen’s wellbeing, effective workforce, and
eventually strengthen human capital and improve productivity.
