Marginalisation means to push someone out of their margins and not being adopted into the
society. Scheduled castes CS, scheduled tribes ST, other backwards classes OBC.
Scheduled castes;
The biggest form of social inequality in india ia the caste system. The system has 4
divisions—--- brahmins,kshatriyas (warrior class),vaishyas(merchants),shudras(other jobs)
The caste system became a tool for creating social inequality. The lower castes were considered
as polluting hence were called untouchables. They were denied to enter temples, were having
menial jobs, denied to participate in any kind of social functions and were force3d to live in the
outskirts of the village and were not allowed to draw waters and they were economically weak.
Article 17 abolishes the practiice of untouchabilitiy. After independence, it was realised that
the caste system hs created great disparity in the s0ciety. Keeping this in mind, the constitution
abolished the untouchability system ans gavw special privileges to the people of lower castes
and thus they werw recognised as scheduled castes.

Adivasis means that those who have inhabitants of an area since time immemorial.
These groups of people have their own customs, culture and are not dictated by the caste
system of the mainstream society.
Tribal societies are respected for their in depth knowledge of the forest and its resources and
were left alone by kings anf the empires. But this changed after british csme in ruling. Forest
area inhabited by the tribal were taken by the british for mining and all leaving them homeless.
Theyvwere considered as misfit and were pushed towards the lower end of the the social order.
Article 17 abolishes untouchability.
Minority community refers to a group of people who are numerically less in a county or an
area and are vulnerable.
The effects of marginalisation;
Education; denial of education didnt help them to uplift their status.
Lack of choices; they were denied freedom and even were denied to marrysomeone out of their
caste.
Access to healthcare; they rarely have access to the healthcare system ans this leads to many ill,
mentally ill, mlnurition among the groups.
Economic inequalities;
Poverty; due to the lack of facilities
Lack of economic opportunities; lacked equal job opportunity due to their low social status.

Marginalisation threatens not only the physical but also the mental well being of those affected
by it as these groups of people face constant dominance by others. Their self esteem is diluted
and consider themswlevs as inferior.
