REPORTED SPEECH
When do we use
reported speech?
 When we report someone’s words we can do
it in two ways:

1. We can use direct speech with quotation


marks (“I work in a bank”)

or

1. We can use reported speech (He said he


worked in a bank.)
 “I want a glass of water”, he said

 He said (that) he wanted a glass of


water.

• Reported Speech
 “I’m not a tall person”, she said

 She said (that) she wasn’t a tall
