The geometry to be imported is a Solid.


Go to Part Geometries on the Import page of
the Part stage.
1. Click the big button Import Part.
2. Select AF_Hood_outer_flanged_V1.CATPart. 1

Separate and Extract the Part

The geometry elements which are not required


for this exercise can be removed.
3. Delete the selected part. 4
4. To define the die as reference side use the Reference geometry
Extract function from this side. (Die side)

Symmetry Definition
1

Defining a Symmetry Plane

1. The planning efforts can be reduced by the


definition of a symmetry plane for self-
symmetrical parts.
2. The Hood Outer is defined as Full Input,
Symmetry with Y = 0.

Using the Red / Gray comparison possible


differences become visible.

Tipping the Part

Tipping Options

1. The tipping of the geometry to working 1


direction on the press is realized on the Tip
page.

2. The Automatic Tipping routine can be


influenced by the preselection of surface
patches.

3. The Manual Tipping can individually be


realized based on:
• Tip Point
• Tip Angle
• Center of Die

default Roll Radius value of 100 mm. 2

Blank and Strip Development

Definition of the boundary conditions for the


addendum definition and part development is
realized under Binder and Addendum.
1. Activate the Binder group. 3
2. Set the Complexity value to 0.700.
3. Go to the Addendum group, activate the
Addendum generation and click Apply.
4. Go to Develop Part and click Apply to
perform the Formcheck.

Feasibility and Outer Holding Condition

The influence of the modified holding


conditions with respect to the feasibility of the
part are shown in the Feasibility diagram.

For the respective holding the following values


are determined:

Outer Holding Condition.

updated if the setup definition is modified.

Embedding / Nesting

1. Go to the Embed/Nest page.

Embedding.

Nesting: The blank geometry is nested on the


coil with respect to utilization.

Embedding: The blank geometry is embedded


into a blank with ruled geometry.

3. The variants comparison eases the selection 3


of the optimum. For the current exercise
the Embed:Arc variant is selected.

Press Definition

For Plan Generation a default AutoForm Press


Line with 6 Beds will be used.
1. Go to the Plan stage and click the big button
Create Plan with Press Line.
Based on the selected press a Plan is generated.
2. Go to the Plan page. The result of the
automatic planning can be analyzed.

panel of the Application Toolbar.

Replace Part 1

New Geometry Revision: Hemmed Part

The simulation is set up with a hemmed initial


geometry.
1. Select Clone the Design from the drop-down
menu of the Design Bar to duplicate the
current .afd file.
2. Use the Replace Part … function from the
context menu to replace the existing by the 2
new geometry.
3. Select the file
AF_Hood_outer_hemmed_V1.CATPart.

Modification of the Hemmed Part

Modify – Unfold 1

The Modify page allows for the implementation


of fast adaptations on the imported geometry
to use them for the subsequent AF setup.

1. Select the module Unfold.
2. Circumferential Radius and Flange areas are
assigned to the In register.

3. Use the function Check to verify that the
region assignment is plausible. 3
4. The option Open Full completely unfolds the
hemmed areas with respect to tangent
continuity.
5. The option Constant variably folds the
flange areas based on input values.

Angle Check of the Reference Geometry

1. Use the result variable Drawing Angle in the


Part 1 setup to determine the opening value
for the flange on Tip page.
2. The determined value of 11° in the front
area is transferred to the Unfold direction in Part 1 geometry
Part 2 setup.
3. Click the Apply button. 2

Update the Formcheck

Since the part geometry has changed, an update


of the Formcheck is necessary. 1
1. Hide the generated geometry on Draw
Geometry tab.
2. Reset the Secondary Forming areas. 3
3. Activate the function Select Crossing
(Shortcut “Q”).
4. Select all faces that belong to the draw
region. 4
5. Right-click on the selection: Selection >
Invert.
6. Develop the part according to setup from
Part 1.

By using the Dependent option, the blank


outline has automatically been updated.
1. Activate the calculation of Embed / Nest
results basing on the new blank outline by
clicking the Apply button.

Modification of the Plan

The generated Plan will be specified with respect to a detailed Manufacturing Feasibility by means of manual adaptations.

• Thus the tool dimensions are adapted.


• An automatically generated Trim Plan is created.
• An Angle analysis is realized to avoid the application of Cams.
• The influence of a Symmetry Calculation is explained.

Modification of tool dimensions

1. Use the function Tooling Settings from the


drop-down menu of Edit for the operation
D-20 to modify the dimensions of the tool.

2. The values are derived from the part 4
geometry.
3. Load the provided Tooling Cost Standard
Exercise_Hood_Outer_Tooling_Cost_Standa
rd.xml.
4. The values are adapted to the Press Bed
dimensions by the calculation Based on
Press. This ensures a consistent clamping
concept of the tool.
5. By using the functionality Trend Indication
the changes become visible in lower costs.

1. Use the option Automatic Trim Plan to

generate the trim segmentation based on
the predefined trim segment length.
2. The value of the trim segment length can be
adapted in the Plan Settings.

Angle Analysis to Avoid Cams

1. Use the result variable Backdraft to detect


areas containing backdrafts.
2. Areas containing backdrafts are detected in 2
the area of the A-pillar and close to the
windshield.
3. Disable the option Cam and Filler for the
feature Simple Flange 2 and assign all
backdrafted areas to the Part region.
4. Subsequently, add a new Feature as Simple
Flange and a new Processing Unit for OP-60
containing these surfaces (also no Cam

required).
5. Set the tipping for OP-60 to Min Backdraft. 3
6. Move the PU of Simple Flange 2 to F-50.

Part 2 Tooling

Plan Refinement

Survey of the Plan & Symmetry Calculation 1

The generated calculation does not yet consider


the Symmetry effect which can be applied to
self-symmetrical parts / constructions.
1. Select the option Yes to Include Symmetry
Calculation.

The effect of the activation of the symmetry


calculation is restricted to the “constructive”
Manufacturing Steps, i.e. these only occur for
one "half" of the geometry.
