Usage:-

 Many :- is used with countable nouns in question,


and negative sentences.

The Present Perfect Tense

Usage:- This tense is used to express actions that


happened in the past and have just finished.

Formation:- Have / Has + past participle of the verb

Key words:- since, for, just, yet, already, ever, never,


lately, recently

Negative :- Subject + Have/ has not+ pp


Question :- Have / Has + subject + pp

Examples :-

1-I have just finished my homework.


2-Has Noha done her homework yet?
3-We haven't met them since 2004.
4-They have lived in Aswan for ten years.

NB :- Yet is used in questions and negative?


Example:- Has mum cooked lunch yet?
No, she hasn't cooked it yet.
Yes, she has just/already cooked it.

Since & For

* We use " since" with specific time


eg. 4 o'clock, days of the week, months ( August-
September……) , seasons ( winter- summer….),
2004 , 1990, 2011 ……….)

Examples :-
 I haven't met Sue since 2003
 Sally hasn't visited her uncle since June.

* We use "for' before a period of time


eg. hours, weeks , days, years, a long time.

The Past Continuous Tense


Usage :- This tense is used to describe an action
that was happening at a particular time in the past
in the past.

Ex:- At seven O'clock last night , I was watching TV.

Formation :- was, were + v + ing

Ex:- They were playing football when it rained.

Key words:- while, as, just as, when

while, as , just as + past continuous + past simple

Ex:- while Dina was getting ready, Mai dropped in to


see her.

Past Continuous + when + past Simple

Ex;- He was running home when a dog bit him.

*Negative :- was, were + not+ v-ing


Ex:- They were not studying their lessons when
their father came home.

* Question :- was, were + sub. + v-ing.
