A Citation Management Software is a tool or desktop application mainly used by researchers and

scholars to arrange and cite the literature being used in their publications. Generally, Reference
Management software attach to word processors such as Microsoft Word, Open Office, or Libero
to directly load the citations and bibliographies into these word processors. Mendeley is a
desktop application made available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The corresponding installer
for the user's preferred operating system is downloadable from the Mendeley website. Upon
downloading the software, the installer can be opened, and the installation settings could be
chosen according to the operating system's requirements.

Mendeley for Mobile
Users of the mobile app were informed on 10 February that the app would be withdrawn from
the App Store and Google Play on 15 March and that they would no longer be able to sign into
the app. The reason for this was that overall usage figures showed that this feature does not
support the majority of Mendeley users according to company expectations. This relates to how
most users had preferred Mendeley to make improvements to Mendeley Reference Manager,
Mendeley Cite, and Mendeley Web Importer instead.

Common Bugs and Issues
Mendeley is quite good as a reference management system, but it does have its limitations. The
following are some of the recent and common issues experienced by users:
 Some users may experience log-in issues that may relate to email address or other
technical errors.
 Some users at experience problems with receiving or accepting invitations to join
Mendeley groups.
 Mendeley Web cannot be used with MS Word on Mac computers, but it can be used with
MS Word on Windows OS using the "Export to MS Word" button.
 Mendeley Web or Mendeley Desktop cannot be used with Google Docs. Citations from
Mendeley Desktop are instead copied and pasted into Google doc.
 Mac Users operating OS Sierra and High Sierra may have to download an older version
of Mendeley for it to work. For Mac Users the new Mendeley Reference Manager
software (2020) is not compatible with macOS 10.15 (Catalina).
 Mendeley Web and Desktop are not accessible for the blind/low vision screen readers
(JAWS, NVDA).
 Text of annotations and, in web version, text in notes cannot be searched.
 Citations including your personal notes cannot be exported.
 There is a limited number of document types available.
