NAMES: DILLA, MARC IVAN D. and MACASILI, KIMBERLY DATE: 10/03/2022

GRADE/SECTION: 12-STEM 15-MATAPANG
PART B: DISCHARGING A CAPACITOR

What happens to the following? Increases/Decreases/Stays constant

Charge on the plates DECREASES
Potential difference across the capacitor DECREASES
Capacitance STAYS CONSTANT
Energy stored in capacitor DECREASES
Glow of the bulb DECREASES

Conclusion:

1. How can we charge a capacitor?

We can charge a capacitor by connecting to a source of electric energy
(the battery). The battery charges the capacitor and the capacitor retains
that charge until it is discharged.

2. How can we discharge a capacitor?

We can discharge a capacitor by directing its energy to something that
could consume the energy (such as the electric bulb in the experiment). The
energy is then used up by the battery to power itself up and glow brightly until
the charge is depleted.

3. What are the ways to increasing the capacitance of a capacitor?

The capacitance of a capacitor may be increased by increasing the area of
the capacitor plate and decreasing the distance between the two plates.

4. What would be the potential difference of the capacitor if it is connected to a

battery of 3V?
The potential difference of the capacitor will be the same value as the
voltage of the battery connected to it. The potential difference of the
capacitor will be 3V too.

5. On increasing the voltage of the battery what happens to the charge on the
plates of the capacitor?
The strength of the charges on the capacitor plates increases due to an
increase in the energy transferred onto the capacitor plates.
