SUMMARIZE THE NATURE AND GOALS OF SCIENCE AND/OR SCIENCE

TEACHING.
SCIENCE
 SCIENCE is about wonderful nature and natural phenomena and led to wonder and awe.
Science used experiment or perform experimental process.

SCIENCE AS A SUBJECT
 SCIENCE is a required subject for basic education and as specialization in higher
education.

NATURE OF SCIENCE
1. Science is a wonderful world.
2. Science is evidence-based.
3. Science has limits.
4. Science knowledge is inherently uncertain
5. Science is dynamic and expanding body of knowledge.
6. Science is both a product and a process.
7. Science is a field of study.

GOAL OF SCIENCE
 Scientists seek to understand the natural world. Scientists begin with a question and then
try to answer the question with evidence and logic. A scientific question must be testable.
It does not rely on faith or opinion. Our understanding of natural Earth processes help us
to understand why earthquakes occur where they do and to understand the consequences
of adding excess greenhouse gases to our atmosphere.
 Scientific research may be done to build knowledge or to solve problems. Scientific
discoveries may lead to technological advances. Pure research often aids in the
development of applied research. Sometimes the results of pure research may be applied
long after the pure research was completed. Sometimes something unexpected is
discovered while scientists are conducting their research.

GOAL OF SCIENCE TEACHING

 Develop scientific attitudes and values
 Acquire skill in employing the scientific method
 Gain functional knowledge and information
 Arouse and sustain interest in future science-based pursuits
 Develop desirable social attitudes

TRANSLATING GOALS INTO OBJECTIVES

Preparing Instructional Objectives
Learning objectives must be stated using behavioral action words such as the following:
 Describe, compute, identify, illustrate, prove, analyze, distinguish, estimate, interpret,
plot a graph, justify, predict, integrate, generalize, synthesize, construct, specify, relate,
infer
OBJECTIVES OF SCIENCE INSTRUCTION
 On Knowledge
Students should be able to gain knowledge that they can apply in:
a. Explaining the occurrence of events in their surroundings
b. Answering questions that they are confronted with, and in
c. Satisfying the curiosities of children

 On Skill in Employing the Science Processes

They must be able to classify, identify predict and interpret things as they investigate and
search for information. Proficiency in employing the science processes enable them to collect
accurate data which can serve as evidence before drawing a conclusion.

 On values and attitudes

Some values worth developing are open-mindedness, creativity and objectivity. Attitudes
of caring, helpfulness and tolerance are likewise inculcated as they work together in science
classes and laboratories.

CONCLUSION
Science instruction must be able to arouse and sustain a variety of interest that may lead to:
a. Healthful and enjoyable hobbies
b. Pursuit of science-based daily activities, and
c. Future plan to pursue science professions.
