Are you going to study English abroad this summer? Then this week’s advice column is
for you!
Studying English abroad is an exciting opportunity, but you might feel worried about
some of the details. It can be difficult to leave home, and most of you will be going away
from home for the first time. The good news is that we have lots of useful advice.
Firstly, think about where you are going to stay? Would you prefer to stay with a family or
in accommodation with other students? We recommend that you spend lots of time with
native English speakers. Staying with a family is an excellent way to improve your
English and make great friends for life!
It’s very important to make new friends. You’re going to feel lonely sometimes and you
might miss home, but having friends will make the experience easier and more fun.
Secondly, you’ll need to know how to find your way around your new town. Spend some
time looking at maps and finding out what public transport is available. That way, you
won’t waste time when you first arrive.
Next, we think it’s a good idea to develop a routine. Make sure you prioritize studying, but
also try to set enjoyable goals, for example: next weekend, I’m going to go sightseeing,
or backpacking with my new friends.
Finally, always find a balance between work and play and enjoy yourself!
