Aim

The aim of this piece is to establish a framework which will facilitate

discourse on better activism within activist community spaces. We need to
ask what do activists seek to achieve, how and why. Activists seek change,
either short term and immediate, or long term and systemic. They seek it
because there is a dissatisfaction or antagonism with the way things are.
How is difficult to quantify, it is all communications in a multitude of modes.
An active effort needs to be made not to design such a platform
component in a way that unduly prioritizes specific types of activists.
Developing resonant communications skills should then be the goal.

The goal of this design is to be plug and play for any discord activist
community, and despite my desire to alienate it from nefarious forces of
discord misinformation and vicious political ideologues.

System Design
Modularity
There are three standard modes and two standard scopes in which this
process will be deployed. There is also an accent which can limit access to
processes made for specific discourse.

The three standard modes, as to the "nature" of the process:

Self Directed Development

Mentorship
Large Cohort Automation

Self Directed Development:

Best suited for smaller user cohorts, especially with instrumental or low
complexity issues. Eclectic issues are not impossible here but will require
sub-processes like text channel threads and possibly additional voice
channels to handle the flow of information. User experience needs to be
placed at the forefront and greater partitioning and specialization of
information channels can prevent users from being over whelmed.

Mentorship:

A mentorship mode would be based around a large majority group

clustering around a smaller mentoring cluster. This is good for large groups
with access to competent experts who are skilled communicators and
educators. With the expertise being the primary direction of the of the
development of the activists.

Large Cohort with Automation:

When dealing with large scale groups may permit the section to become a
synthesis, an active group managing such a section would enable good
function. Depending on scale, people managing the direction of the section
in response to current events, a separate team managing discourse in a
moderator and mentor function alongside having a timed/activity based bot
post a variety of curated content, and potentially ping would allow for the
channelling of information within the channel in a specific direction.

The standard scopes relates to the length of time the process is intended
to be used.

Permanent for Community Development

Temporary in Response to a Particular

The additional accent is the ability for on creation of the new process for it
to only be accessible to a dynamic group, with either the party that
establishes or approves the section can distribute the role which permits
access and the access role.

Section Layouts
In the interest of keeping in line with a goal of modularity, these can serve
as the building blocks from which to develop a functional and meaningful
section which can facilitate both long term discourse on the type of
activism, as well as short term activism projects.

Desired Culture
Instrumental or Solidarity

An instrumental expansion of the process should be thought of as a

temporary burst of information and when that burst is completed should
intensify poesies throughout the system as it collapses back into the main
system. These can be thought of as temporary second order systems
layered over the main process.

An instrumental culture will be immediate, less social, more goals oriented,

prioritizing timely communications and the end goal of the section. Conflict
is more likely to appear, so having good conflict controls prior to
establishment is important. An instrumental expansion is likely to be more
insubordinate and subversive so ensuring strong limits to those of influence
in the instrumental expansion is needed while the instrumental process is
active.

Long term expansion of the process should be filtered within the codified
guidelines and be tightly reviewed for variance which is outside what is
permissible. It should add structural cohesion and intensify the
effectiveness of the rest of the structure. It should have intended plans for
experimentation and reform.

A long term expansion should have a culture of solidarity.

"The idea of intersectional solidarity suggests that activists may act with an
intersectional consciousness –a recognition of oppression as constituted by
multiple and interacting social structures. Intersectionally conscious social
movements may reassess their structures, internal norms, and practices in
light of the recognition of social group differences (e.g., see Greenwood
2008). A collective that recognizes the intersectional contour of oppression
may reassess its practices in various forms: by organizing an inclusive
decision-making structure and leadership, supporting the autonomous
organization of distinct social groups within the movement, and advocating
for social policies that address multiple forms of oppression" (Tormos,
Intersectional Solidarity, 2016)

So then the culture should be fluid, not static and avoid permanence in the
convictions of others, operating from privileging empathy and education
over individualization and aggressive validation seeking performance.
