He was doing all he could to concentrate on not concentrating on the door to the balcony.

The small
crack was a port, but right here he would be safe. They could only take him if he went close to the
door, so he couldn’t close the door. But this was the safest place in the apartment, in all the other
rooms wherever he was there was a window that could see him, or even worse, a mirror. The mirrors
were the worst, not counting the balcony. Not only was the balcony a port in for them, but it was
also a port out for him. As fast as he came close the Darkness would swallow him and there wouldn’t
be anymore.

Every noise was that of a Dark creature and he knew, because that’s the things he knew. Children of
the Nothing. They starred at him from everywhere and nowhere, and he knew it, but he couldn’t
stop it. No one else was alive but him, because that’s what happens at night. He is alone and no one
can help him. No one. No one at all. That’s just how it works, big boys can defend themselves.

But he couldn’t defend himself here, because this was It, and It starred at him through the crack,
whispering to him, trying to lure him to come, and then he would grab him and turn him into
darkness and make him another Child of Nothing and he would hurt him and it would hurt and hurt
and hurt and hurt.

But he really had to go to the bathroom, but the corridor was dark and even worse; there was a
mirror in there. He wouldn’t let the Darkness get him, let It wait for him outside of the bathroom
while The was waiting for him in the mirror and the water would come to get him. Because that’s
what They and It and Darkness and The did. They would take him and make him a Child of Nothing,
but he was a big boy and he would make this. He didn’t need to go to the bathroom. He did not have
to go to the bathroom. He wasn’t going to go the bathroom. He didn’t need to.

He had to.

But he couldn’t.

And so he waited, but he couldn’t fall asleep, because then Darkness and Dark and They and It and
The and everything would take him and grab him and drag him and hold him an no one would hear
him scream and Those in the walls would laugh and it would hurt and hurt and hurt and hurt.

The eyes he couldn’t see was watching him and he felt it and he knew it. That was how it was. But big
boys can defend themselves. But now he wasn’t a big boy, he was a child because he couldn’t defend
himself and Those and They and It and Darkness and The and He could see him and this wasn’t good
and he cried and cried and cried and it was bad and he was not good for he was a big boy but he was
a little boy and he screamed and screamed and no one heard him and They and Those and He and It
and They and Everyone was dragging him and it hurt and it hurt and it hurt and it hurt and it hurt and
it hurt and it hurt and it hurt and it hurt and they were laughing and screaming and pointing and
dragging dragging hurt it hurt and it was bad bad bad hurt hated big boy Child of Nothing Ha Ha Ha
