Poster paper

Objective: The students will learn ways they can care for people in their community and across
the world.

Opening: I will review what we learned the previous day about the life, death, and resurrection
of Jesus. I will ask the students what Jesus had asked us to do before He ascended into heaven. I
will explain that He wants us to make disciples of all nations.
Questions to ask:
1. What is a disciple?
2. What is a global citizen?
3. How are they related?
4. How can we be a disciple and global citizen in today's world?
Share the story of Sonia and the video of “What does giving look like?”
How can we apply this information to our community?

List people who need our help in our community on a poster: (Examples):
1. Homeless people
2. Children in foster care
3. People living at a hospital and needing care

Body: We will have a classroom discussion about what it looks like to care for people in our
community and world.

I will create four groups of students. Two groups will talk about how they can impact our
community by showing love and caring for them. The other two groups will discuss how we can
care for others on the other side of the world.
After 5 minutes, we will come together as a class to discuss what they came up with. I will try to
guide the students to think about giving their time, resources, and support. For example,
spending time making friends with kids at the local children's hospital or volunteering at a food
kitchen.

We will talk about building relationships with others and sharing the Gospel. I will share with the
students that the power of prayer is strong. We can be praying for people in need in our
community or on the other side of the world. Through Christ, we can make a difference in the
world.

Conclusion: The students will take time to write an encouraging letter to someone in our
community. It can be someone in the hospital, a child in foster care, a homeless person, or the
missionary our classroom supports. I will check at least three encouraging and complete
sentences. This assignment should be written in a letter format and the students should sign their
name.

We will take time to review what they have learned and talk about ways we can continue to be
global citizens.
