Describe a time when it is important to tell your friend a truth

Well, there are a lot of times when we have to conceal the truth from our beloved ones for
various reasons. However, I believe that not telling the truth to our friends is considered the same
as lying. But sometimes circumstances don’t allow the person to tell truth. It may be out of
insecurity, love or fear. Last year I was also in the same situation. I bought the laptop from my
friend Linh as I had to do some work. But my younger brother mistakenly broke that. I
immediately took it to the service center but the employee informed me that the parts of the
laptop are not available yet. Therefore, it will get repaired after a week. At first, I didn’t tell her
but as I was feeling guilty so I decided to let the cat out of the bag. Thus, when I told her about
her laptop, she extremely angry and her face gets red and she shouted. When I explained the
whole matter then she got calm and said it’s fine accidents can happen with anyone. After that, I
got satisfied and was able to concentrate on my work. So, this was the incident in which I told
the truth to my friend.
Part 3
Do you think telling truth is important
It is important to tell the truth because that is how you build trust with other people. People who
don’t tell the truth are not trustworthy, and most people don’t want to be friends with dishonest
people. Lying is a selfish thing to do, and it will make people less likely to open up to you or to
build a relationship with you. Nonetheless, there are still a lot of people who choose not to tell
the truth for their own reasons.
Do you think we should tell the truth at all times?
I think that the majority of time, telling the truth is better than telling a lie. However, there are
some situations where telling the truth could cause someone to get hurt. For example, a friend
might ask you if you like their outfit when they are about to leave for a night out. Even if you
don’t like the outfit, it may be best to lie and say they look great since you know they don’t have
time to get changed. This is what is called a white lie.
How do you know when others are telling lies?
I can usually tell when someone is lying to me because they will often do something that is out
of the ordinary. Some people can’t look you in the eyes if they are lying, some people turn red
and some people laugh nervously. You can also tell if someone is lying if their story doesn’t
have a lot of details or they can’t answer questions about it-that would mean that they made it all
up in the first place.
Do you think it's more important to win a game or follow the rules in sports?
I suppose that following the rules is way more important than winning a game, because if you
don’t follow the rules then you can’t win the game anyway. Most major sports have referees
whose only job is to make sure that everyone follows the rules. So, it makes more sense to learn
the rules of the game first, and then they keep practicing your skills so that you can eventually
win.

2. Describe a time when you had a problem with using the computer.
As we know, the computer has become an essential device in today’s time as it’s helping the
people in many ways like study, work and so on. Here I would like to talk about such an incident
when my laptop broke down. I remember during the lockdown, my school gave an assignment as
a part of online study, one day I was preparing my assignment in the evening time with the help
of my laptop while sitting in the living room. When I took a break I went to the kitchen to
prepare a cup of tea for myself. However, my niece was playing with a football and he hit the
football on my laptop. I picked it up immediately and tried to turn it on but it was not working
and the screen was broken. Then I decided to visit the Laptop care center to figure out the
damage. The technician told me the display had broken and needs to be replaced. The cost for
replacement was expensive. I shocked to hear such a big amount because few months before I
spent a huge amount to purchase my laptop. In the end, I had to pay to repair my laptop. After 2
days, the technician changed the display and I was able to use my laptop again.

Part 3:
What kinds of people use the computer more?
it based on the users’ age group. For instance, children like to watch cartoons, draw pictures and
play games on a computer while teenagers mostly use the internet on a computer or laptop to use
their favorite social networking websites, find information to complete their school assignments
and for entertainment purposes. Adults often use a computer to connect to the internet, check
emails, create presentations, do online shopping and listen to their favorite music.
Do people living in modern countries use the computer than those living in developing
countries?
Well, to answer this question, I should first mention that the ownership of computers is almost ten
times higher in cities than that of villagers in my country. Thus most of the families living in a city own at
least a computer except for poor people while almost one in twelve families in rural areas have a
computer or a laptop.
What are the methods to prevent children from playing computer games?
Parents and teachers should take action, maybe not to prevent playing video games entirely but
certainly to limit it. Parents could limit the amount of screen time their kids have and teachers
could forbid gaming in the classroom. Both of these strategies will force children to spend less
time on their games.

3. Describe an interesting conversation you had with someone.

Well, I am an extrovert person and I love to talk with new people on many topics. Here I would
like to talk about a time when I had a conversation with a stranger when I was travelling to
Thailand by plane that time an old woman sat next to me. She was looking here and there.
However, I was listening to music. She was looking very fit and healthy even in her old age. I
asked her the reason behind her healthy lifestyle. I was facing an overweight problem and I
thought it is a good opportunity to know about healthy living. I asked the old woman, how I can
fit myself. She laughed then she told me to avoid fast food even I was eating while talking with
her. Also, she told me about the side effects of being overweight. She told the secrets of her
healthy lifestyle. According to her, she uses to do daily exercise without missing any single day
as well as take green vegetables and salads. She also suggested to me to follow the same. After
that conversation, I thought it is not possible without joining the gym. That conversation changed
my opinion and now it has become part and parcel for me to do exercise and eat healthy food.
Part 3:
What's the most interesting conversation you've ever had?

In your opinion, what makes another person interesting to talk to?

Is it difficult to start a conversation with someone you don't know? Why?

I don’t know other people, but it is for me. Unless there’s a specific question I want to ask
someone, I would hesitate for ages before going up and talking to them. I really should get over
this fear of mine.

4. Describe a kind of weather you like.

When speaking of my weather preference. Honestly, I love all the kind of weather but my
favorite is spring’s weather. Usually, it starts at the end of December in our country and lasts till
the middle of March. The weather in my country is the best during spring because it is mild all
year round, not boiling hot in the summer and not freezing cold in the winter. This type of
weather always uplifts my mood. People tend to be in a good mood during this time of year
because it has a pleasant climate with mild weather. After a long, cold winter, the warm
temperatures in spring are a welcome change. They rise to a range of between 15 and 25 degrees
Celsius, which I think is much more pleasant than the freezing winter or sweltering summer. The
air is fresh and cool, the wind is still a bit cold at night and early in the morning, but the sun
begins to shine and warm up everything. The heavy rain from winter is gone and sometimes
there is drizzling rain instead. The spring weather is perfect for me to go outside and do activities
to stay healthy as the high humidity has not set in yet. So that is the reason why l like this
weather.

Part 3:
What kinds of clothes do people wear in summer?

What is the least favorite season for you?

What types of weather are suitable for outdoor activities?

What’s the most typical weather in your country?

5. Describe a time when you got close to wild animals

Well, there are many types of animals found in Vietnam like pet animals, domestic animals and
wild animals. Here, I would like to talk about a time I went to the zoo near my grandparent's
house and I saw an elephant. It is a big animal with long ears, long teeth legs and a long trunk. I
saw this animal from a distance of around 5 to 6 feet. Although the elephant is known as a wild
animal but it doesn’t seem dangerous like other wild animals such as lion or tiger. An elephant is
a somewhere friendly and loving wild animal. They are big vegetarian. In the wild, they eat a
wide variety of plants, grasses, fruits and so on. Some elephants are also trained to do stunts with
football in a circus, which I also saw during my teenage in a circus. I like these wild animal
because they never harm any living species until they are not harmed. The young elephants are
so cute and they also have a well-structured family life. So that was the time when I went close
to a wild animal.

Part 3
What are the differences between animals in zoos and those in the wild?
Well, animals in zoos are a lot more socialized with humans. They might not interact with humans all the
time, but they have to get used to zookeepers being in their space. They are also very dependent. They
rely on people to get fed. But animals in the wild have to look out for themselves. They are also not as
used to humans. They might also be more dangerous because of that.
Why should the staff in the zoos teach the public about animals?
I think it’s important to be educated different animals because it gives you an appreciation for
them. Nowadays, when you visit a zoo, the zookeepers might share some interesting facts about
them, including their natural habitat. It makes visitors care about those animals, especially those
endangered species. Most importantly, knowing about these animals also makes you want to
protect their habitats so they won’t go extinct.
Why are people keen on feeding pets?
I suppose that people like feeding wild animals because it makes them fell connected to nature. Even if
it’s just giving a squirrel a peanut, you get to have a nice moment with a cute animal. Some people also
want to try to help the animals they see. Lots of people put food out for local wildlife because they want
to take care of them. The main danger is providing the wrong food or trying to get close to a dangerous
animal like a bear.
How can the increase of the human population influence wild animals?
Well, the more people you have, the more space they take up. That interferes with animals’
natural habitats. For example, lots of forests are cut down to provide space and resources for
houses. That means that a lot of animals are displaced. Humans also create a lot of pollution,
which can negatively affect wild animals. Many species have gone extinct or are now
endangered because of rising temperature and ocean acidification.
6. Describe a time when you needed to use your imagination
Well, there are lots of times when we have to use our imagination like drawing, making projects,
narrating stories and most often while travelling. Here I would like to talk about a situation when
I used my imagination to develop a story. I was at my home and suddenly my cousin came with
his family and it was an incredible surprise for us. We all had a lot of fun. I have an amazing
time with his little adorable daughter who is just 5 years old. At night she slept with me but due
to the excitement, she was unable to sleep. Then she insisted me to narrate a story. At first, I
thought it’s easy as I can get a story from Google. But, when I picked my phone, unfortunately, it
was discharged. So I used my imagination and tried to make a story on the spot. Honestly,
starting the story was quite simple but when she didn’t sleep then it was extremely difficult to
stretch. I must say that making a story is a hard nut to crack. Despite that, I kept on going for
about 10 mins. Finally, she slept and I felt satisfied.

Part 3
Do you think adults can have lots of imagination?
Yes, I suppose that some adults are extremely imaginative. It depends on the person. Some
people are naturally more imaginative and creative than others, and so they usually choose
careers such as being an artist, musician or writer. These types of people love to create new
things and they have very well-developed imaginations which is evident in their work. On the
other hand, many adults also find they are less creative than when they were young. I think it’s
quite common and realistic. After all, kid’s imaginations have no boundaries.
Do you think imagination is essential for scientists?
I think imagination is essential for everyone, especially scientists. How are they supposed to come up
with the next great vaccine or invention if they can’t think outside of the box. To create something just
like scientists do all the time, you need to have an active imagination capable of big ideas. If scientists
didn’t have imagination, I’m sure we wouldn’t have the inventions we currently have now.
What kinds of jobs need imagination?
it seems to me that every job requires at least a little bit of imagination. But some jobs certainly need
your imagination to take wing. The ones that would require the most imagination would be careers such
as teaching and writing. A teacher needs to be creative to engage their students. And writers are
capable of creating whole worlds out of nothing. The amount of imagination and creativity these jobs
must take is astounding.
What subjects are helpful for children’s imagination?
I think Vietnamese literature is extremely helpful for a child’s imagination. Reading books,
studying language and writing are all very c useful techniques to engage a child’s mind in
sometimes boring situations. Children love stories. They love to hear about other worlds. Books
about literature are the perfect gateway to improve your child’s imagination. Science is also a
helpful subject to engage your child’s imagination because they can always learn something new
and think outside of the box.

7. The part of a town or city that you enjoy spending time in

Today I’m going talk about an interesting place where I enjoy hanging out with my friends in my
spare time, which is a lovely coffee named Clever Land 24. It is located on To Hieu street near
the center of Hai Phong city. The coffee house is decorated in an old, traditional French style,
with a lot of paintings on the wall and it attracts a lot of foreign customers. I often take a day off
to go there on weekends after a long stressful week. There are many live music events taking
place there performed by acoustic guitarists so I often check them out on the internet and come
with my friends. The fast-food tastes quite savoury and especially the coffee in Clever Land is
always delicious. That might be the reason why it was ranked among the top 10 best coffee shops
in HP. Whenever things go wrong, I often go there as a hideaway to escape from all the pressures
and order a cup of coffee to relieve my stress. Therefore, it’s more than likely that I will keep
coming back to it as my favorite place soon.
Part 3:
What are the best facilities that your town has?

Do people prefer to live in a city than in a town?

Why do the elderly like to live in the countryside?

8. Describe a polite person you know.

Well, I think politeness is a quality which should be in every human being. However, it’s tough
to find people being polite with others these days. I have met with some polite and well-behaved
people. Here, I will talk about a person who is polite and down to earth. He is my neighbor and I
call him uncle. He is a retired teacher. If I talk about his personality, he is in his sixties, but he
still looks as fit as a fiddle and healthy. We always get together to celebrate special times and to
spend quality time with each other. He is such a gentleman, courteous, kind-hearted and
generous person. One thing which I am impressed with is his way of talking polite to others and
he always ready to help people in trouble and never disappoint anyone. He always motivates me
with his great sense of humour and I never missed the boat to learn something new from him. I
had studied math from him during my school days and I passed with flying colors. Everybody
admires him as a role model in my neighborhood because of his qualities, intelligence and
incredible nature.

Part 3
What's the standard of being polite?
I think being polite usually means speaking at a reasonable volume, keeping eye contact, and
being an active listener. You should show interest in what the other person is saying and avoid
interrupting them. You should also have a pleasant manner. That means that you keep your
temper in check and act in a positive way. It never hurts to smile. Being polite can also be shown
through certain gestures, like letting someone go through the door before you, or even holding it
open for them.
What behavior will be regarded as impolite?
Some obvious examples are physical acts of aggression, like pushing or shoving. If you shove
past someone to get into an elevator, for instance, that’s seen as very rude. In conversation, if
you avoid eye contact or look at your phone during conversation, that’s also pretty impolite. It’s
much better to maintains eye contact and stay engaged in the conversation. I also think it’s rude
to interrupt people or take up too much time in the conversation. You shouldn’t speak over
others.
Who are more polite? people from cities or those from the countryside?
If I had to guess, I would think people from the countryside are more polite. In cities, you’re often in very
crowded environments. Instead of taking the time to hold open the door for someone, people are in a
rush to get work so they just walk through without acknowledging anyone else. There aren’t as many
opportunities to genuinely connect with people in cities. But in the countryside, people are generally
less rushed and have time to make polite small talk with others.
What do you think make people polite?
I think part of it is due to upbringing. If your parents teach you to be respectful and polite from a
young age, then you’re more likely to be polite throughout the rest of your life. But I suppose
that it also takes certain character traits. Polite people are usually kind and patient as well. You
don’t necessarily have to be kind to be polite, but it comes naturally when you are. Being polite
just means that you care about and respect other people. Those are pretty important qualities.

9. Describe a famous person that you are interested in

If my memory serves me right, I once come across Toc Tien, a public figure in Vietnam.
Currently, Toc Tien is one of the coaches in The Voice, a singing contest that helps many talents
gain a foothold in the entertainment industry. In the future, I hope I could set aside more time to
attend Toc Tien’s live concerts. So Toc Tien was born in HCM City, which is located in the
southern part of Vietnam. There are two children in her family, one of whom is the producer of
several tv shows that are broadcasted daily. Toc Tien, who burn the midnight oil trying to
improve her vocal, is thankful for the upbringing of her parents. During her school year, Toc
Tien excelled more than any other peers and was appointed as the head of the class since she
received good feedbacks from the teacher. But without the assistance of her mentor, she
wouldn’t have such good techniques. If I have to describe her in a word that would be “
ambitious achiever ”

Part 3:
What kinds of famous people are there in your country?
In my opinion, there are two kinds of people who become famous people these days. First of all, people
are famous because of their real talents. They are scientists, inventors, singers, actors, rich and
successful people. The second kind of famous people is people who are known by their scandals. They
do anything to be famous. They do not concern about things they do right or not.
What are the differences between famous people today and those in the past?
I think famous people today may have more rights than they used to in the past. I’ve watched a few
documentaries about actors and actresses in the past and how poorly the industry treated them. Some
actors had no rights over their own bodies. If they gained weight they would be fired. Some actresses
weren’t allowed to have children until their contract was finished. I’m sure it is still tough to be an actor
but I feel like actors have more rights and are treated better than they were in the past.
Do you think famous people are necessarily good in their fields?
I think it depends on the person. Some people are extremely talented and deserve the fame they have
acquired but others simply got lucky when they became famous. There are actors everyone knows like
Tom Cruise, who is not necessarily a good actor but is able to play a consistent character in his movie
franchises. He gets tons of movie roles because he is well-known but a lot of audiences don’t think his
acting is good.
Do you think media is putting too much attention on famous people?
Yes, I personally do think the media puts too much attention on famous people. At the end of the
day these people are humans just like everyone else and don’t need their whole lives broadcasted
for the entire world to see. And the new media, especially social media, is often swamped with
gossip and even scandals involving celebrities, which is a bad trend. I’d rather the media focus
more on real issues in our society.

10. Describe a time that you gave advice to others

Well, advising someone shows human traits. Sometimes our advice can guide others in choosing
the right path. Also, I seek advice from experienced persons to save my time, money and efforts.
Here I am going to talk about a time when I advised my friend. It was a few months back when
my friend had become addicted to unhealthy food. She used to eat junk food every day, which
negatively affected her health. Because of her habit, she has been going through multiple
problems such as obesity, stress and less sleep even though she couldn’t manage herself from
eating unhealthy food. As for her faithful friend, I advised her to start gym, exercise and a
healthy diet. To encourage her, I also joined her in this commitment. After following all these
steps, she started observing a complete change in her health physically and mentally within a
month. She became as fit as fiddle and much more energetic. Finally, I want to say that she lost
all her extra fat with my advice and inspiration.

Part 3
Should people prepare before giving advice?
Well, it depends on the situation, sometimes people will ask you for advice out of the blue and you
won’t have time to prepare an answer. Other times, you may know that you are going to be giving
someone advice and in that case you can prepare beforehand. This is especially true if giving advice is
part of your job, such as if you are a teacher, mentor or therapist. In those cases, you have to prepare
because your advice might have a huge impact on advice seekers’ lives.
Is it good to ask advice from strangers online?
I don’t think it is ever a good idea to ask advice from strangers online. And children or teenagers should
especially be cautious about seeking advice online, because they can’t tell whether the strangers are
helping them or steering them wrong. Plus, people online are not always who they say they are. It can
be very dangerous to share a lot of personal information online with someone you don’t know, so for
that reason I would advise not contacting strangers online for everything.
What are the personalities of people whose job is to give advice to others?
I think that people who give advice to others have a few specific personality traits, including empathy
and patience. These people are very empathetic and understanding because they can relate to a
problem that their clients might be going through and give relevant advice. Plus, they need to be patient
because sometimes people coming to get advice might be in an agitated or confused state of mind.
What are the problems if you ask too many people for advice?
If you hear a lot of advice, you might become even more confused than before you asked them. If you
ask for advice from more than two people and they all have different opinions about what you should
do, that can be very frustrating and not helpful. It’s normal that everyone has their own perspective. In
that case, you would probably be of two minds and can’t decide what to do next. So it might be better
to ask just one trusted friend. They can always give you all the advice you need.

11. Describe a perfect job you would like to have in the future
Well, doing a job or business is paramount for each person to survive in this world. Here, I
would like to talk about a job which I want to do in the future and perfect for me. This is the job
of a teacher. A teacher is a powerful weapon who can change the world. And also teacher is like
a candle that burns itself and shows light to others. It is one of the noble profession and many
great teachers are serving society. I also want to join myself in this noble profession after the
completion of my education. In public schools, the teacher can earn a handsome salary. Apart
from this, in rural areas, children do not study due to financial issues. So I will try to educate
them free of cost part-time because a high literacy rate will assist to lower the crime rate in the
nation. This is an enjoyable job and if I enjoy this profession, I can produce quality work.
Students also give a lot of respect and love to tutor. So this is the job which I would like to have
in the future.

Part 3:
What kind of job do children like?
Children usually dream big about what they want to do or who they want to be I the future. They are
also very creative, so they might like jobs such as being an astronaut, an explorer or a detective. Children
who are active may want to become a firefighter or a professional athlete. But there are also some
children who admire their parents and want to step into their shoes by getting the same job as them
when they are older.
Do children like to choose the same profession as their parents?
I think it depends on the person-some children really want to follow their parents’ footsteps while
others prefer to do something completely different. I also think that children’s viewpoints will change as
they get older, when they are very young, they may want to have the same job as their parents, but as
they grow up, they will likely develop different interests, which would lead to them pursuing a different
career.
Will people regret about their career choices when they become older?
As people get older, it is natural for their interests to change as well. In some cases, people might
realize that they regret the career they have chosen. They may have chosen the job because they
knew that they would make a lot of money, but in reality they don’t have any passion for it. They
may need to reassess their decisions and choose a different career path so that they can avoid
having any more regrets.
What should people consider when choosing jobs?
people should consider a number of important factors when looking for a job. For one, they
should check what kind of jobs they are qualified for based on their education. Many jobs require
a college degree or the equivalent. For another, they should find out what kinds of jobs offer
good compensation. After all, people work to get paid. Last but not least, people need to think
about if the job interests them because it will help them find a job that they genuinely enjoy.

12. Describe a thing that you bought and felt pleased about
Well, I don’t often buy things as I am a frugal spender but if I do I ensure the thing is useful and
practical. Here I would like to talk about a device name Kindle I purchased recently. I have a
profound interest in book reading and I have a great collection of books but these days I find it
difficult to manage books as I don’t have enough space to keep them. On my friend’s
recommendation, I purchased this device and I’m really happy about it. Most books are available
free of cost on Kindle so I don’t have to buy them to pursue my hobby. Sometimes I used to read
e-books on my mobile phone but I often get distracted by the notifications but Kindle offer an
amazing experience of book reading without any disturbance. The best thing about this device is
that I can easily carry it and even reading books anytime especially travelling. Another feature is
the use of a dictionary which helps in finding the meaning of difficult words. Considering all
these factors I can say that it’s something that I purchased lately and I’m really happy about it.

Part 3
How often do people in your country go shopping?
People in my country go shopping fairly often. But most of them do it online. You know, it’s not
as common for people to go to the mall on the weekends. It’s much faster and more convenient
to buy things online. There are so many websites and online shops to browse. Plus, it’s actually
better for the environments since you aren’t driving back and forth. I personally love online
shopping.
Why is online shopping popular?
Well, for one, it’s super convenient. Instead of getting dressed and leaving the house, you can shop from
the comfort of your own room. You don’t have to go anywhere. For another, online shopping gives you
such a wide range of options. You can look at all kinds of websites and online shops. The variety can
actually be overwhelming at times. It’s also better for the environment since you aren’t driving
anywhere.
How should sellers set prices for their products?
I suppose that they should consider the cost of supplies as well as the time that goes into making the
product. Generally speaking, a business knows the gross cost of each product by calculating their supply
cost, production cost, marketing cost. Thus, the cost is an anchor to set the price, which shouldn’t be
less than the cost. I think the sellers should also try to be competitive with others who are selling similar
items. That way they can make a good profit.
Do you think online shopping will replace shopping in stores?
no, I don’t really think so. Even though online shopping is the latest craze nowadays, I believe
there are always going to be people who prefer going to an actual brick-and-mortar store. Online
shopping is more convenient in some ways, but nothing can replace in-person interactions. After
all, shopping in store can be a fun social event that can bring people closer together. So, in my
opinion, online shopping can’t hold a candle to actual shopping.

13. Describe a time when you ate something for the first time
Well, I’m a big fan of barbecues and I would like to talk about the first time I tried some typical
barbecue food. This happened when I was 10 years old. My family went out to have dinner to
celebrate my brother’s birthday. After putting so much thought into some new savoury food to
have for our meal, we decided to go to a BBQ restaurant. We ordered 4 dishes with 3 tastes. One
of them which interested me was grilled Australian beef, flavoured with something spicy, rich
and aromatic. It not only tasted delicious but also looked appealing. Also, it was going well with
2 kinds of dipping sauces and was served with baguettes. The idea of a barbecue originated in
America. What I enjoyed was that we could watch as it was cooked in front of us. Just
mentioning it makes my mouth water. I mean the BBQ was out of this world. That was the first
time I had tried it and I would have liked to have kept on coming back for more.

Part 3:
What kinds of foreign food are popular in your country?
Vietnamese people are very open to exotic foods. So I would say that we enjoy lots of different types of
foreign foods. Some of the most popular are probably Korean, Japanese and French food. In big cities,
there are tons of restaurants that feature those foreign cuisine. And even just for one type of foreign
food like Korean, you’ll find several different restaurants to choose from. Lots of my friends think
Japanese sushi is to die for.
What are young people's opinions on new food? How about old people?
I suppose that young people are more open to new types of food than older people because they don’t
have so much fear or stress about trying new and unfamiliar foods. Generally speaking, young guys are
more adventurous with things including eating. So they are more likely to have the nerve to try new
foods, especially during travel. But older people especially seniors can be picky eaters. A lot of them
have become very used to the foods they have eaten all their life and they are just reluctant to change
their taste.
Should teachers and parents teach children how to cook?
Yes, cooking skills are extremely important and it would be great if teachers and parents could help
children to develop these skills. Parents especially will have ample opportunities to teach their children
how to cook whenever they are at home cooking dinner. Children who learn to cook will be more
independent when they grow up and more prepared for adult life when they leave home. Teachers can
also play a role if cooking classes are offered in the child’s school.
Why do people like their local food?
I think people like local food because it’s familiar and easy to access. Most people get to enjoy
food from their local markets and shops growing up, and they become very attached to this type
of food even into adulthood. Whenever people return home after being away, one of the first
things they do is buy their favourite local food. Eating local also means that you’re supporting
local farmers and local business.

14.Describe a time when you got lost in a town or city

I’d like to talk about the time I got lost in a small town. During the holiday last summer, there
was a flower exhibition of tulips held at a flower farm in a small town near my city. I’d never
been to a flower farm before so my friend and I decided to go there by a bus route that we looked
up on the internet. It took us about one hour to arrive at the stop, but we still had to walk a long
way to the farm. It was awkward that we lost our way right after we got off the bus. We tried to
look for the farm building we saw on the internet before but we followed the wrong sign and
ended up hitting a dead end. We only got on the right track after I asked a passerby who seemed
like a local. I figured out later that we were walking around the farm. But we didn’t have a GPS
for navigation nor a guide, so we had no other choice but to walk around with our fingers
crossed. Anyway, we finally found the farm. It was the first time I visited such a tremendous
farm and saw such a vast sea of flowers. So even though we took a detour for a trip, it was worth
it.

Part 3:
Do people get lost more than in the past?

What kinds of people get lost easily?

What should we do if one of our family members gets lost?

15. Describe a short trip that you frequently make but dislike
I commute from my house to the city centre for my studies daily. Though the distance is 7 km
only this journey takes one hour. I can’t escape from it as there is no other mode of
transportation available in the morning. I board on the bus at 6 am from my bus stop along with
many other commuters. Being the morning time, people of my area go for their work and studies
to nearby cities and towns through this route. Therefore, the bus is overcrowded often and the
passengers have to face a tough time. People juggle with one another to get some room. The
situation gets worse in summers then everyone wishes not to board in a crowded bus but due to
the non-availability of alternative conveyance, they have to bear. The worst thing that the
commuters have complained to the local administration many times to increase the number of
bus service on the same route but no action has been taken yet. It becomes quite difficult to go
through this route and I don’t wish but I have to.

Part 3:
Do Vietnamese people like travelling abroad?
Yes, most Vietnamese people like travelling abroad, either for vacation or for student exchange
opportunities. Vietnam is a beautiful country, but I think most people would love to see other
parts of the world. I don’t think this is true just of Vietnamese people, actually everyone in the
world likes to travel abroad when given the opportunity. People like to have adventures and
travelling to a new country is a great way to do that.
Who prefer travelling abroad? The young or the old?
I think that in general, younger in their 20s and 30s like travelling abroad more than older people. Older
people usually have family obligations that keep them in one place, or they may have health concerns
that limit how far they can travel. Besides, younger people just starting their careers can be the most
avid travelers because they are financially independent and want to experience different parts of the
world.
How much time do you think people should spend on a trip abroad?
I think that an ideal amount of time to spend abroad is 2-3 weeks. This is for a couple of different
reasons; primarily, I suppose that spending a longer time abroad gives you an opportunity to really
experience another culture and maybe even learn some of the language. Also, being away longer gives
you a better chance of getting rid of your jet lag so that you’re not feeling exhausted during your trip.
Which is better for knowing more about a country? Travelling or reading books about it?
From my perspective, travelling is definitely the better way to learn about a country. Reading
books is great and it can tell you a lot about the place, but travelling is the only way to truly
experience it. When you’re travelling, you’re immersed in a different culture and can actually try
the local foods and see what people’s lives are like. As far as I know, many foreign tourists are
blown away by how different Vietnam is from what they read from books an know from the
media.

16. Describe an ambition that you have had for a long time.
One of the outstanding goals that I’m yet set for a long time is to travel to England, which is on
top of my bucket lists. Since I was a child, I had an interest in travelling, I visited many countries
around Asia, throughout my school year time I start to have a dream to go to England. I’m
fascinated with the royal family, as well as the stunning scenery in England. As one of the most
ancient countries in the world, I was attracted by the beauty and antique architect. The biggest
impression to me is the way British talking and their friendliness and during that, I have more
motivation to achieve my target. Travelling has been one of my hobbies and going to England
can help me to expand my knowledge, also understand the culture in Other countries. I have
started to save up budget to afford this trip for a long time, besides I’m also to improve my
English skills which is not a big problem to me. I have also prepared my profile to get a UK visa, I
will try my best to finish my biggest ambition.
Part 3
Do you share your ambitions with others?
Is it important for us to have ambitions? Why?
Do you think it is important for the youth to have ambitions? Why?
What kind of ambitions do people have in your country?
Do you think children should consult their parents before setting their goals?
What can be the result of failures?
Do you think without any ambition, our growth may come to a standstill? Why?
Why do many people lose their ambition gradually as they grow up?

17. Describe a family (not your own) that you like.

I would like to talk about a family that I am very close to, it’s my uncle’s family. His family has 2
daughters who are around the same age as me; therefore, I usually drop in to his house to chat
with them. At times, we bake some cakes and take them to our grandparents’ house; then we
have an overnight sleep there. Besides, we often hang out together, especially at the weekends
just to take it easy and enjoy ourselves so as to get ready for a new week. Their parents, I mean
my uncle and aunt, are very warm-hearted, and they both work as college teachers. I
remember when I was small, I used to live in my uncle’s house and they looked after me as if I
had been their daughter. Hence, our relationships are out-of-this-world, although we don’t
have much time together like before. But on special occasions such as the Tet holiday, we will
gather at my grandparents’ house to make Chung cake, enjoy a firework performance as well as
wish New year’s greetings to each other. As a final point, I hope that we can maintain this close
relationship for ever.

18. Describe a foreign language you want to learn or you use the 1 st time

I will tell you about my favourite language that I want to learn is Korean. To me, it’s an
interesting language with a lot of culture behind it. Also, Vietnam has a very close relationship
with Korea, so I believe it will help my future. The reason why I want to be fluent in Korean one
day is that I’m so in love with its adorable sounds. I can pick up some common phrases through
a lot of Korean dramas and k-pop songs. I bet it would be easy to find a language partner or join
a language exchange club to practice Korean because the number of Korean tourists visiting
Vietnam has been on the rise and many Korean people are staying in Hanoi now. You know,
knowing Korean in combination with my English skills can give me a competitive advantage in
the not too distant future and it undoubtedly would make my future holiday in Korea more
enjoyable. On top of that, it would be such a great feeling to be able to watch Korean movies
without Vietnamese subtitles. All in all, Korean is a handy language worth knowing.

PART 1:
1.Home/ accommodation
What kind of housing/accommodation do you live in?
I live in a flat in a 25-storey apartment building with my fam. I enjoy my life there because all
facilities and services are available within walking distance which means I can easily grab
anything I need in just a few minutes.
Who do you live with?
I live with my family. There are 4 of us and we all have our own room, which is way more
comfortable as the older we grow, the more privacy we need for ourselves.
How long have you lived there?
I’ve been living there for over 7 years and I love it. I thought about moving somewhere else but
living here is pretty great and fun. Besides it’s really close to my school.
What’s the difference between where you are living now and where you have lived in the
past?
There’re quite a few differences. The house I used to live in is huge with separate rooms,
each of which has its bathroom so it’s convenient and private. However, my apartment
right now is much smaller and I have to share a bathroom with my sister.
Do you plan to live there for a long time?
My answer would be yes. I have nothing to complain about with my current accommodation.
Everything is up to par, from the neighbors to the vicinity amenities. That is why my fam has no
intention of leaving this wonderful neighborhood.
Which room does your family spend most of the time in?
I think we spend the most time in the living room. It’s comfortable place where we all have
room to kick back and relax. My mom and dad sit on the couch together. I like sitting in the
loveseat. We all watch tv or just have quiet time as a fam.
Are the transport facilities to your home very good?
Not even slightly. The bus stations are always crowded with people who are really
inappropriate and always talking out loud. The floors are so dirty that I don’t even want
to step inside a station.
Do you prefer living in a house or a flat?
Each type has some things to offer me but I would have to go for a house. There’s usually more
space and the water supply is much more reliable.
What part of your home do you like the most.
My room. It’s big, to begin with. There’s a bookshelf attached to the wall which is my favourite
spot for reading. My bedroom provides me ultimate relaxation after a tiring day and it’s the only
place where I can get privacy.

2. Study
What is your area of specialization?
Well, I majored in English Teaching Education Faculty at the University of Language and
International Studies. As I dreamed of becoming an English lecture in the future who assimilates
knowledge to students.
Why did you choose to study that major?
I chose this major because I think the huge benefits of being a teacher is a sense of pleasure you
achieve when you see your students make progress. Besides, I have been an English enthusiast
since I was a child and I want to teach and inspire my students to have interest in this language.
Do you like your major? (Why? Why not?)
I have never regretted opting for ETE major since this allows me to have a great command of
English. Additionally, when my students make progress in learning English, I get a sense of job
satisfaction and self-worth.
What kind of school did you go to as a child?
I have studied in a public school from pre-school till 6 th grade. It used to be the most popular and
the best elementary school during my time.
What was your favorite subject as a child?
I like Math a lot when I was a kid. Solving word problems were very interesting for me. I’d
always get high scores in exams.
Do you think your country has an effective education system?
To be honest, I don’t think so. The reason is that our country still exits the exam-driven
education system, which only provides students with theoretical knowledge than a
practical one. Therefore, a lot of students forget immediately about what they have
learned and do not know to apply it to real situations.

3.Trees
Have you planted trees?
Yes, my grandfather is an avid gardener, and I have planted him to plant many trees in their
backyard. I also planted a lemon tree and a banana tree in my house.
Do you keep plants at home?
Yes, there is a garden in the back of my house. I grow some herb, brush and trees. There is also a
big lawn in the centre of garden. I really enjoy the gardening work which can help me relieve my
work stress.
Do you know anything about growing a plant?
Yes, I know how to plant the seedlings, water and feed them with fertilizer, prune them after
booming if necessary. Anyway, different plant needs different care so I need to read the
instruction before planting them.
What plant did you grow when you were young?
Trees have so many uses, and when I was a kid, I like to plant all kinds of trees but my favorite is
fruit trees. I have planted mango, banana and lemon trees in my backyard.
Do you think places with trees attract more visitors than places with few trees?
Without any doubt, greenery always attracts people because it gives peace of mind and
relaxation. Trees make the area more beautiful and clean.

4. Museums
Do you like visiting museums? Why?
It’s like great. I guess it’s just very excited having to walk all the way through a building to see
some pictures and odd-looking things I have never seen and touch before.
How often do you visit museums?
I wish I do but I never have the time. My parents took me to VN Museum of Ethnology every
Lunar New Year festival so I have better understanding of Vietnamese’s culture. My memories of
that place are truly invaluable.
Are there any museums in your hometown?
There are. Museums in VN are quite diverse and they cover almost very field namely the fine art
museum and plenty more. However, museums are not so appealing to the young which is
unfortunate, they could have been much more educational.
Do you think there should be more museums in your hometown?
Definitely not. It’s not necessary to build more museums as it’s costly. Furthermore, nowadays
museums are not so appealing to the young. Instead we should invest in other fields related to
education, healthcare any many more.

5. Taking a rest
How often do you take a rest?
It’s a short break from work like 20-30 mins, I usually drink a cup of tea to help me awake and
re-energize my mind.
Do you take a nap when you are taking your rest?
Yes, actually naps are good for most people. As far as I know, naps can improve brain functions
ranging from memory to focus and creativity. For me, naps are as restorative as a whole night of
sleep.
How do you feel after taking a nap?
A 30 mins sleep would be enough to refresh my energy. Taking a nap is a way for me to recharge
my battery after working hard in the morning.
Is it important for you to take a rest every day?
As I mentioned, it does wonders for your mental and physical health and makes sure you can do
your best during the day. If I don’t have a rest, I’m total unendurable to the people around me
because I’m so tired.

6. Farms and Farming

Have you visited a farm?
Once. I remember when I was a child, I took part in a field trip to the farm. I was widened my
knowledge about agriculture such as how to grow crops, water the plants and so on.
What can you do on a farm?
Well, including cleaning and tending livestock, planting and harvesting crops which a typical
farmer will carry out. However, I’m awkward person so I can only do other general handiwork.
Do you think farming is important?
Yes, definitely. Without farms, we would lack basic things like grain, dairy and meat products.
Those are the backbone of the food industry. It’s hard to image what life would be like without
those things.
Are there any farms in your hometown?
No, I grew up in a city so there are few farms in here.

7. TV program
Do you often watch programs on the TV or on your cellphone?
Maybe is on the TV. I usually watch VTV news. It’s often broadcasted live at 12pm and 7pm
every day. It provides up to date information about incidents and activities taking place not only
in VN but also all over the world.
What kind of TV programs do you like?
I’m keen on watching TV drama series and reality shows. I feel they are not only useful but also
entertaining and sometimes touching. For example, when I watch one Korean drama series I
usually burst into tears because the cast is talented.
Do you like watching the same kind of program all the time?
Well, watching the same kind of program for a long time easy to be boring. Honestly there is
quite a mixed variety of tv programmes that I keen on watching but in particular I do get into the
sitcom programs that make me laugh a lot.
Do you talk with your friends about the program you watched?
Yes. Whenever I watch a good movie or a meaningful reality show, I recommend it to my friends
and so are they. It’s also a way to connect the friendship between us.

8.New Year celebrations

How do you celebrate New Year?
I usually celebrate Lunar New Year by visiting my hometown and spending the entire holiday
with my family. We would do activities together like decorating the house, cooking festive foods
and going to pagodas.
Do you still remember a new year that you celebrated?
I remember every Lunar New Year I celebrated with my fam, because they are all memorable,
but Lunar New Year 2020 was the one that was the most different. The beginning of 2020 was
when the pandemic broke out and countries started to impose lockdown so we had the quietest
and longest holiday ever.
Do you have any ceremonies to celebrate the New Year in your country?
We don’t have any NY ceremonies on NY’s day, youngsters mostly partly with their friends and
most people like to spend their day with their fam. My fam only makes appetizing food to
worship the ancestors.
Why do people think New Year is a new beginning?
Humans have hope that’s what gets them through tough times like this. So, no matter
what happens in the previous year, we always believe that things will change for the
better in the coming year.
Is New Year celebration important to you?
Well, they are a distinctive and probable the most intriguing part of different cultures
across the globe and should be preserved for the next generations. Besides, NY holiday
males a perfect chance for us to reunite which is essential to a fulfilling life.

9. Places where people like to read

How often do you read?
Usually before sleep or on holidays, I would prefer to idle away the hours by reading. However,
there’re many books so appealing that I have to have sneaky reading to save my time.
Do you have many books at home?
I’ve never counted but I can guess. Currently I ‘ve around 20-30 books. Actually, I don’t keep
book, I don’t collect anything. Therefore, I feel wonderful when after reading a book, I gift it to
someone.
Do Vietnamese people do enough reading?
From my perspective I must say it’s not enough. The young generation are too into technology
that I don’t think they have time for reading. Plus, publishing nowadays is not as strictly selective
as it used to be, thus the young mostly read a number of books which indeed have no value at
all.
What kind of people like reading and what kind of people don't?
I’m not sure about this, I think it depends on hobby or age. For children they love to read
some cartoons. Just bring them to library and allow them to explore the books that are
there. But novels and historical documents are preferred by adults.

10. Singing
Do you often sing?
Well, singing is the biggest passion in my life. I almost sing everyday especially when I’m doing
homework, washing dishes or even having a bath. I think music can make me happier.
When do you like to sing?
Since I’m a very outgoing person I like singing very much, especially when I’m taking a shower.
Because at that time I feel relaxed and happy so I really enjoy myself.
Is it difficult to sing well?
I believe that there’s nothing difficult in this world, if we put our heart into it. take myself as an
example, I was poor at singing before, but later I have been keeping practice in front of the
mirror and I can sing much better now.
Do you want to be a singer?
Well, from what I have known, being a singer is not easy at all. It’s not just about performing but
it’s also involved interaction with fans and other colleagues. I think showbiz and even the music
industry is not a place for me.
What kinds of music do you like to sing?
I must say it depends on my mood. If I’m so down singing some songs which bring back some
past memories could make me feel released and on the days when I’m so motivated, so
energetic I would sing the songs that are full of hope and dreams.
11. Math
When did you start learning math?
I can’t remember precisely but it was probably in my first year at primary school when I
was 5 years old. I probably learnt simple addition at that age.
Do you like math?
I don’t like math but I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever really like the subject either. I’m happy
to do simple calculations but my brain can’t cope with the complex stuff.
Who taught you math?
My teacher and my parents. It all started with very basic question like “ if I take away
some of these candy how many are there? ” which my parents practiced with me at
home. But first and foremost it started at school.
Is math difficult for you to learn?
I tend to have difficulty in learning math. I always tried hard to focus on math class to
grasp the material but no matter what age I was I still struggled.
Do you like to use a calculator?
Yes, I do love using a calculator to make everything simpler. It allows me to calculate
numbers more quickly without having to thinking much.
What teachers can do to make math more interesting to students?
Teachers can make lessons interesting for children by creating contents which are more
real life oriented such as allowing students to do their math based on how much money
they would like to spend in buying things and so on.

12. Happiness
Is there anything that makes you feel happy lately?
Well, there’s nothing really special that makes me so happy recently, but every day I’m happy
because of my fam. They are my inspiration and my strength that keeps me going in life.
Without them I don’t know what my life would be like.
What do you do to stay happy?
For me, it’s really a challenge to be happy all the time. Whenever I feel down in the dumps I
don’t suppress that feeling, I don’t force myself to be happy as that’s just impossible. Instead, I
give myself permission to feel all kinds of emotions since that gives me peace of mind.
Can you stay happy all the time?
As much as I want to but that’s just unattainable. We wouldn’t know the taste of happiness if we
didn’t go through some hardships or sad experiences in life. I think staying happy all the time is
just an idea for a realist like me that’s undoable.
Is it important to be happy?
Definitely. Life is short to dwell on things that make you sad, there’s more to life than
feeling terrible about yourself or hating the world. I think to be happy is a choice if you
choose to be happy you’ll have more opportunities in life.

13. Mornings
Do you often get up early in the morning?
Yes, I love getting up early because I can be productive. I can doing things makes me feel so
fulfilled like preparing breakfast, cleaning the backyard and many more.
What do you usually do when you get up early?
As I’ve said a while ago, I just do all kinds of housework. I enjoy doing house chores early in the
morning since no one interrupt me, as a result I can finish them very easily.
Do you get up early on weekend?
never, it’s because the weekends are my days off. I only get up early on weekdays. Saturdays
and Sundays are the only days where I allow myself to be lazy. I just love to stay in bed until 9
o’clock on weekends.
Which morning do you like best in a week?
For me, it’s Friday morning as it’s the last day of the week where I have to get up early and do all
the tasks that I have to do. I just feel so motivated on that day more than the other days of the
week.

16. Your country

Which part of your country do you want to live in?
If possible, I really want to move to Da Lat city and live there forever. I’ve traveled to tons of
places in VN, but Da Lat city is definitely the most livable city among them. It literally looks like a
city of gardens. Plus the weather there is super comfortable.
What makes you feel proud of your country?
Well, since the COVID 19 pandemic, what I’m most proud of my country is the grit and civic duty
of our people. The pandemic was severe at the beginning. But Vietnamese are united and willing
to help each other. It’s really great.
Do you know the history of your country well?
Well, I’ve learned a lot about the history of Vietnam, mostly from history class. But I certainly
can’t say I know the history of my country well, because it’s a country with a 4000-year history.
And there’re still a lot of unknown parts of our history.
Will you stay in Vietnam in the future?
I will definitely stay in Vietnam as it’s not only where my fam is but also a country that
develops fast. I have a dream of starting my own business one day so it’s way more
promising living in Vietnam.

17. Hometown
Where is your hometown?

What is your hometown like?

Do you like your hometown? Why?

How long have you been living in your hometown?

How could your hometown be improved?

Has your hometown changed much since you were a child?

Do you think your hometown is a good place to bring up children?

Is there good public transportation in your hometown?

Will you be moving away from your hometown?

18. Weekends
How do you usually spend your weekends?
I usually like to spend my weekends outdoors by hanging out with my friends and fam
either at our favorite restaurants, enjoying some of our favorite food, or at some local
café where we could enjoy some snacks and freshly-brewed coffee.
Which is your favorite part of the weekend?
I don’t have a favorite part as in Saturday or Sunday or morning or night time. I guess I
like having big meals with my fam at weekends which we don’t always manage to do
during the week, so that’s nice.
Do you think your weekends are long enough?
No I think 3 days weekend and 4 days work week would be much better, to allow people
to get the right work life balance. Already on Sunday morning, Monday is looming up
and it often makes people stressed out to think about returning to work so they don’t even
fully enjoy their time off.
How important do you think it is to have free time on the weekends?
It’s absolutely essential. Work seems to be getting more intense and stressful so it’s really
important to have time where you’re not thinking about work and can chill out, unwind
and recharge your batteries for the next week.

19. Free time

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Well in my spare time, I usually take part in swimming because it’s one of the healthiest
sports and it strengthens all of the muscles equally. In addition to this I really get into the
feeling that I can float as free as a fish when I’m in the water.
How much time do you have each week for doing these things?
I don’t know exactly but I guess I’d have to say just a couple of hours per day probably.
Why do you like doing these activities?
Well, no one would like to go back home right after busy day just to have a late, cold and
sometimes leftover dinner. That’s just what I have to do since I have to work until late in
the evening.
How did you start doing this activity at first?
When I was young, my parents took me to the swimming pool and teach me how to
swim. It was very fortunate for me because I now continue to enjoy.
Is there some other hobby or sport you would like to try?
Well, actually I would like to have a go at playing the piano. The idea of me singing and playing it
at the same time has hit my mind since I was a little. Besides, I do love its sound which always
touches my heart when I feel emotional and also cheer me up a lot when I’m down.
How has the way people spend their free time changed over the years?
From my perspective, there are 2 main types of people. One group of young people
enjoys outdoor activities. The other group prefers to sit at home and use the internet as a
tool of entertainment. In the past, this didn’t happen frequently as the internet wasn’t so
widely available as it’s now.
