Hi. Let me tell you about the important conversation that I had with my
father. I had this conversation after I completed my graduation exam and
prepared to enter university. I needed some advice about choosing a
school so I talked to my dad. I asked my father which university was
best to choose and he thought HCMC University of Education was the
best for me. But I didn't like that school and my graduation exam score
wasn't high enough to get into that school. After researching other
universities, my father advised me to study at a university of economics
and finance. I followed my father's advice and entered this school and
studied commercial business. This conversation was very important to
me because it was the biggest turning point of change in my life

Hi. Let me tell you about the time that I felt very lucky. Last Saturday, I
had a lesson at school and when I finished it I left my phone on the desk.
When I got home, I discovered that I had forgotten my phone. Then I
had to run to school to get back my phone but the school was closed. I
was really worried so the next day, I went to school early and asked
security if someone picked up the phone and sent it here. The security
took out the phone and asked me to unlock it with a password. I was
able to get in and prove this was my phone. After that, I thanked the
security for finding my phone. I felt very at that time because the
security found my phone and the phone is the most important thing I
can’t lose.
SET 3

notes to help you if you wish.
Describe a time when you or your acquaintance had to see a doctor.
You should say:
● when it was

● why you had to see him/her

● what advice you got from him/her

and how the meeting was important to you.

Let me tell you about a time that I had to see a doctor. I went to the
doctor last Friday. I had an ear, nose, and throat examination. And the
doctor diagnosed me that I had inflammation in all three and that the
average condition was not too dangerous. Regarding the ear problem,
the doctor advised me not to go swimming and not to clean my ears with
cotton wool regularly because it would cause my ears to bleed.
Regarding the nose problem, I have sinusitis, so I need to avoid sleeping
in air-conditioned rooms that are too cold and limit exposure to the smell
of cigarette smoke. I need to wear a mask when going out to avoid dust
from blowing in and affecting my nose. And finally, my throat. The
doctor advised me that I should not drink cold water or eat fried foods
that are rich in fat because that will seriously affect my throat. This was
an important medical examination for me because thanks to that I
discovered that I was not in a serious condition and needed to change
immediately for better health.
SET 4
Part 1: You will have to talk about the topic for 1 minute. You can make some
notes to help you if you wish.

Describe an old and wise person that you know.

You should say:
● who the person is

● how old the person is

● what the person is like

and explain how wise the person is.

Let me tell you about my grandmother who is a wise person in my

opinion. My grandmother is in her mid-80s. She’s pretty beautiful with a
round face and rosy cheeks. She is pretty young for her age as she has a
balanced diet and a regular sleep schedule. There are two main reasons
why I think my grandmother is a person of wisdom. Her calmness
surprised me. She remains calm under any circumstances. There was one
time when there was a misunderstanding between my grandmother and
her friend, that woman kept cursing my grandmother and finally crossed
the line by slapping my grandmother, but she didn’t get back. She just
tried to calm her friend down, and make peace. She rarely makes any
judgments about other people's thoughts or decisions. If anyone blabbers
about a secret or just talks behind someone else’s back, she just listens
and never makes any comments. This gossip is none of her business; she
just minds her own business. Because of that wisdom, I think my
grandmother is a wise person.
SET 5

notes to help you if you wish.

Describe a memorable trip in your life.

You should say:
● when the trip took place

● where the event took place

● what happened during the trip

and explain why this trip was memorable for you.

Let me tell you about a memorable trip in my life. This trip took place 3
years ago and is also the trip that makes me remember it forever. This is
a vacation trip for me with my family at Vinpearl Nha Trang. On the
first day we got there, we checked in and rested after a long day of
driving. The next day was also the day that I remember until now when I
got there. That evening, my family and I went to the amusement park to
play thrilling games. I played with my brother on the aerial Ferris wheel.
While we were spinning in the air, preparing to land, the Ferris wheel
suddenly stopped. That made me feel extremely scared because at that
time we were hanging in the air and looking down was the abyss.
Because that swing was placed on a mountain quite high from the
ground, it scared me quite a bit. But fortunately, a while later the
maintenance team came to fix it and took us down. We were stuck up
there for about 30 minutes and when we reached the ground, my legs
could no longer hold me. And that was also one of the trips that made
me remember forever.

SET 6

notes to help you if you wish.
Describe an environmental problem in your city.
You should say:
● what the problem is

● what has caused the problem

● what effects it has on the city

and suggest solutions to the problem.

Let me tell you about an environmental problem in Ho Chi Minh City

and that is the situation of litter. Because people litter too much, it has
caused serious pollution of the environment from water to air. Because
people have the habit of littering, wherever they go, they will throw
trash there, like throwing it into the river, or throwing it in a corner, not
in the trash. That's why HCM has many rivers that have a foul smell
because they store a large amount of trash in the river. Causes
unpleasant odors and affects water sources. To overcome that littering
situation, there is an organization called Sai Gon Xanh consisting of
young volunteers who will collect trash from rivers, streams, and
spontaneous garbage. They also spread the word to everyone about the
harmful effects of littering indiscriminately, causing pollution, and
advising everyone to throw trash in the right place to make the city
greener.

Describe an activity you have done to keep fit.
You should say:
● what activity it is

● what you do exactly

and explain whether the activity is successful.

Let me tell you about an activity that I have done to keep fit, which is
jogging. I took up this habit about 5 years ago. At that time, I was up to
my ears with studying to prepare for my graduation examination so I
was a little bit stressed out. Then I thought that I needed to do something
energetic to release some stress, so I decided to have a crack at jogging.
At first, doing this was quite challenging for me because I led a
sedentary lifestyle. But after a few days of practice, I got used to running
continuously for 1 hour. Well, I have to say that this jogging has helped
me a lot in strengthening my physical health as well as my mental
health. Thanks to jogging, I was able to lose my fat belly and get lean.
Also, jogging allows me to unwind and enjoy fresh air, and whenever I
go jogging I feel like my mind is being refreshed. That's all that I want
to say.

Describe a teacher who had an important influence on your education.
You should say:
● what he/she was like

● what subject he/she taught

● what do you liked about his/her teaching

and explain how the teacher influenced you.

Let me tell you about my teacher who had an important influence on my

education and his name is Mr. Thien. Mr. Thien is my high school
teacher and he teaches me math. I thought that he would be a tough
teacher and I would have to be very polite and formal with him but I got
this impression because of his serious look and tidy dress-up. But soon
after I found that he was a very friendly person, and we did not have to
be "very polite" to him but I still had to respect him because he was my
teacher. I would say he has had a great influence on my education
because he helped me build a strong foundation in mathematics. I have
always been good at math, and that's mainly because of Mr Smith - who
had a major role in making the subject interesting to me. Before I
learned math from Mr Smith, math was intimidating to me, and I
considered mathematics to be a complex and uninteresting subject.
However his teaching and influences changed my perspective of math,
and later on, math became one of my favorite subjects for which I
admire this teacher greatly.
SET 9

notes to help you if you wish.
Describe a cultural event that you are interested in.
You should say:
● what the event is

● when the event takes place

● what activities there are in the event

and explain why you find this cultural event interesting.

Let me tell you about an amazing festival in my country called Tết. Tết
is the Vietnamese New Year, and it's one of the most significant and
vibrant celebrations in Vietnam. Tết usually takes place in late January
or early February, following the lunar calendar. The festival lasts for
several days, and it's celebrated by Vietnamese people all around the
world. Families gather together, and the atmosphere is filled with joy
and excitement. One of the most iconic decorations is the peach blossom
tree, which symbolizes growth and prosperity. One of the highlights of
Tết is the traditional food including sticky rice cake, spring rolls, and
sticky rice. Another important aspect of Tết is visiting relatives and
friends. People make visits to their loved ones' homes, exchange warm
wishes, and give lucky money in red envelopes. As for me, I love Tết!
It's my favorite time of the year. I enjoy the festive atmosphere, the
delicious food, and the joy with my family and friends.
SET 10
Part 1: You will have to talk about the topic for 1 minute. You can make some
notes to help you if you wish.
Describe a project you had to do on your own (or with classmates) as part of
your studies.
You should say:
● what the project was about

● what you (and your classmates) needed to do

● how successful the project was

and say what you learned or enjoyed when working on the project.

Let me tell you about a project I had to do during my studies. The

project I want to talk about is the advertising campaign to sell products
in my 10th grade. Luckily, I was allowed to work with some classmates,
otherwise, it would have been very difficult for me to complete the
project alone. We were supposed to complete the project within two
weeks and I think that was a reasonable amount of time to do it.
However, when we started working on the project, it took us a few days
just to debate and come up with ideas for a suitable product. We finally
decided to create an advertising campaign to sell “lemonade.” It didn't
take us more than 10 days to complete creating the campaign and we
made quite a profit from selling that lemonade. Anyway, I learned a few
things while doing this project. That is, we all need to make an effort to
listen to different opinions to maintain team spirit. I also learned that a
person's communication skills, or wordplay, can have a huge impact on
how we are attracted to those around us.
