ACTIVITY SHEET 3
A. Direction: Define the following concepts and explain what being ask in the activity.
1. What is visual art?

-Ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, design, crafts, photography, video, film creation,
and architecture are examples of visual arts. Many creative genres, such as performing arts,
conceptual art, and textile arts, incorporate elements of visual arts as well as other sorts of arts.
Applied arts such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design, and
ornamental art are also included in the visual arts. It is described as something made and intended to
be viewed by others, thereby the word "visual."

2. What are the form of Visual Arts?

a. Ceramics

- Ceramics is a type of art which incorporates its use of ceramic materials to create things such as
pottery, tile, figurines, sculpture, and tableware.

b. Architecture

- It is the art and science of planning and constructing structures and buildings. It is derived from the
Greek words arkhitekton, which means "master builder, director of works," and arkhi, which means
"chief," and tekton, which means "builder," which are two Greek phrases. Carpenter”. The art and
science of creating a complex object or building is frequently referred to as architecture.

c. Photography

- Involves the use of a camera and the capture of photos in line with the photographer's vision.

d. Conceptual art

- It is a kind of art, sometimes known as conceptualism, in which the thoughts or ideas involved
take precedence above conventional, aesthetic, technical, and material considerations. Installations,
commonly known as installation art, come within this category.

e. Drawing

- It is a method of creating a picture using any of a wide range of instruments and techniques. It
entails producing traces on a surface using a tool by exerting pressure to it or moving it over it.

f. Sculpture

- Sculpture is a visual art form that deals with three dimensions. It entails cutting and molding
materials including stone, metal, ceramics, wood, terracotta, and others.
g. Painting

- A type of artistic expression. Drawing is merely one component of this art form, which also
includes motion, composition, storytelling, and abstraction. It varies and is determined by the
painter.

3. Describe the History of Art Classification

- Art categorization history is challenging for a variety of reasons, the core element of which is that
the notion of art is always evolving. To begin, appropriately defining an art is crucial, if not
essential, because any categorization system would necessarily nurture competing viewpoints,
leading to aesthetic excesses, factual inaccuracies, and judgment errors. Nonetheless, categorizing
art is a risky technique that can lead to the structure of some art forms. One cannot help but be
astonished by the phenomenal growth. As one reads through this History, which covers around
20-40 thousand years (The Muse includes cave, Minoan, and Egyptian art for perspective), the
depth and range of mankind's creative accomplishments, the tenacity of man's need to create art,
and the advancement in his technology become clear. This art's technical level is often outstanding,
if not remarkable, and the expressive quality is outstanding. To summarize, the world of art is a
complicated entity in terms of not only its forms and variety, but also its historical and cultural
foundations. As a result, it's probable that coming up with a clear description or categorization for
what a specific work may be labeled as will be challenging.

ACTIVITY SHEET 4
Direction: Explain the Philosophical Perspective on Art.
1. What do you mean of the following concepts?
a. Art as an Imitation
- Plato's concept of "art as an imitation" fundamentally says that an artwork is a replica of
something in our world, such as objects, events, people, or anything else. In summary, it is not
the real article, but rather a forgery manufactured by duplicating another copy of a certain
piece of art to create a new work of art. He also asserted there that because art may be imitated,
the audience will be more distant from reality. To put it another way, it has the potential to
lead individuals to lose their sense of reality.
b. Art as a Representation
- Representation is a type of characterisation or portrayal of something or someone, whether
it's a substance, a place, or a people. This means that visual arts artifacts depict something
other than or even outside of oneself. In several settings, signs and symbols are employed to
communicate thoughts. As a result, the idea of "art as a representation" simply means that it is
a human creation, as opposed to nature, which is a natural phenomenon in this universe. This
implies that any piece of art is only a representation of reality, rather than the reality itself.
Furthermore, according to Aristotle, all art does not seek to reflect reality as it is, but rather to
convey a version of what may be or the infinite possibilities of existence.
c. Art as a Communication of Emotion
- As we all know, one of the roles of art is communication. It is also stated that, despite cultural
and language barriers, art may be a kind of communication that most people comprehend. But
first, consider art as a type of emotional communication. According to Leo Tolstoy, art has a
significant function in expressing the artist's prior emotions to the audience. Because it is the
bearer of man's deepest sentiments and thoughts, art has a unique chance to act as a tool for
societal harmony. Nevertheless, art is essential to man's life since it makes people's feelings
and emotions from the past and present accessible.
2. Look around your house and identify a product of art. In a short bond paper, paste a picture of that
product of art in your household. Trace the beginning of this item and identify what functions it has
in history (e.g., a painting of the Last Supper in your dining room or a spoon).

Buddha Figurine
History
Buddhist art is art influenced by Buddhism. It includes depictions of Buddhas and bodhisattvas,
notable Buddhist figures both historical and mythical, narrative scenes from their lives, mandalas, and
physical objects associated with Buddhist practice, such as vajras, bells, stupas and Buddhist temple
architecture. Buddhist art originated on the Indian subcontinent, following the historical life
of Siddhartha Gautama from the 6th to 5th century BCE.
As Buddhism spread and evolved in each new host country, Buddhist art followed in its footsteps.
It developed to the north through Central Asia and into Eastern Asia to form the Northern branch of
Buddhist art, and to the east as far as Southeast Asia to form the Southern branch of Buddhist art. In
India, Buddhist art flourished and co-developed with Hindu and Jain art, with cave temple complexes
built together, each likely influencing the other.
During the 2nd to 1st century BCE, sculptures became more explicit, representing episodes of the
Buddha's life and teachings. These took the form of votive tablets or friezes, usually in relation to the
decoration of stupas. Although India had a long sculptural tradition and a mastery of rich iconography,
the Buddha was never represented in human form, but only through Buddhist symbolism. This period
may have been aniconic.

Functions in History:
1. Has played a central role in the spiritual, cultural, and social life of Asia, and, beginning in the
20th century, it spread to the West. For Buddhists, Buddha sculptures serve as visual imagery
intended to narrate the various aspects of the Buddha’s life and lessons. Buddhism emphasizes
qualities such as compassion, seeking personal development, and taking responsibility for one’s
actions.
2. Historians believe that Buddha left his footprints in every land that his teachings were to make a
lasting impression, with the largest impression left atop the Sri Padaya mountain in Sri Lanka.
This mountain is considered a sacred space across several religions, and many Buddhists make
the pilgrimage up the mountain each year to worship.
