Futsal may not be as popular as basketball to Filipinos and may not have many
fans in the world compared to football, but it can be as exciting as the other sports.

The word Futsal comes from Spanish word- Futbol sala or futbol de salon and
from Portuguese futebol de salao, translated as indoor football or hall/lounge
football.

And it is played between two teams consisting of five players.

Slide 4

Futsal is played on the pitch with the objective of shooting the ball into the
opponent’s goal to a score a point.

The standard size court for an international is 40 m x 20 m(131 ft x 66 ft). The

ceiling must be atleast 4 m (13 ft) high. A rectangular goal is positioned at the
middle of each goal line.

Domestic Court - The length of a futsal court must be a minimum of 25 meters but
not more than 42 meters.

They are also similar to basketball courts, and when players do not have access to a
standard court they will often play on a basketball court.

Slide 5

Futsal ball is spherical, and made of leather or other approved material, of a

circumference of not more than 64cm and not less than 62cm.

As you can see, we have three sizes of ball for Futsal, we have size 2, 3 and 4. But
we often used size 4 of the ball.

The sport was invented by Juan Carlos Ceriani, a coach and physical education
teacher from Montevideo, Uruguay in 1930. He made futsal a new kind of football
which would be played indoor unaffected by the weather conditions. Originally
developed for playing on basketball courts, it was first played for recreation in
YMCAs.
