Introduction

The National Security Policy 2022-2026, an integrated approach to addressing major security issues, is
the first-ever policy document in Pakistan's history. The document is formulated to deal with the
country's national, human, and economic issues properly. In actuality, it is a framework to solve
traditional and non-traditional threats and the human security and economic problems of Pakistan. The
policy aims to counter the traditional threat to the Pakistani nation, emanating from India, by creating a
robust military infrastructure and modernization of armed forces. Likewise, it also discusses measures to
combat non-traditional threats. According to the policy framework, the non- traditional threats that can
destabilize Pakistan are terrorism, violent extremism, disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, poverty,
hunger, population growth, floods, and pandemics. Furthermore, the mainstream citizen-centric
approach of the policy, to ensure the safety, dignity, and prosperity of every citizen of Pakistan, is a step
towards making the country an Islamic welfare state. However, the core focus of the NSP is on the
country's economic security; because the national security and human security objectives are best
served only in an economically stable state. For Pakistan, economic stability or security is possible only
through economic diplomacy, regional connectivity with China, and trade with Central Asian states.
Additionally, Pakistan must become an export-led economy and increase exports to attract FDI to
achieve economic security. Thus, the proper implementation of this integrated policy can lead Pakistan
towards greatness.
