check, a unit review, and a unit test.

GLOs General Outcome

Describe the characteristics of 3-D objects and 2-D shapes, and analyze the
relationships among them.

SLOs Specific Outcomes

Describe and provide examples of edges and faces of 3-D objects, and sides of 2-D
shapes that are:
parallel
intersecting
perpendicular
vertical
horizontal.

Body

Lesson 1 Vocabulary - Face, Base

Review what a face is with 2D shapes

● Ask students how many faces shapes have

Introduce 3D shapes with miniature shapes

● Show faces and bases as well as edges

Have students do the activity and write about the number of faces, bases,
and edges on the shapes they’ve made.

Lesson 2 Vocabulary - Pyramid, prism

Remind students what a base is

● Explain the difference between pyramid and prism
Use dot paper to show how to draw the shapes

Review parallel and perpendicular

● Practice identifying parallel and perpendicular faces and edges.

Assessment Skill check

Review Before doing the unit review have a lesson reviewing the concepts that
they struggled with.

Reflection

This menu went really well. The students in this group had lots of fun looking at, making, and
drawing 3D shapes. They all did really well on their skill checks for this menu too.
As a unit, geometry was really interesting for them. As we went through the menus their
understanding continued to improve. I was really impressed with them.

April 19: The group did the unit test today after a review of the unit and working on review
questions on their own. Their grades on the test were not as good as on the skill checks, but
they all were at grade level for this geometry unit.
