Description and Rationale
This lesson will tell the story of the three little pigs, then have students retell it using their own words
with puppets. Teaching them to retell a story will help with communication and comprehension of
texts.

Transition Put students in 5 groups of 4 (one group will have 5) 5


Get them sitting in their designated areas of the room.

Learning Frist – decide who is going to play which character


Activity 2
Go over not being upset if they don’t get the characters they want,
taking turns with the puppets, playing nice with each other,
listening when others are talking. 15
As a group, they will work together and use the puppets to retell
the story of the three little pigs. Tell them they may get a chance to
share their retelling with the class.

Have student numbers on the back of each puppet and hand out
based on number.

Transition When groups seem to be done get their attention and tell them 2
that it is time to retell the story all together. Students back in
desks, one group at a time.
Learning Ask if any groups want to share their retellings.
Activity 3
If all groups want to go let them all present (some can be done on a
different day if there is not enough time)

Go over what good listening looks like and explain that we need to
show our classmates that we are listening to their retellings. 10
Have a shake break/10 second dance party between presentations
to avoid students getting restless.
Learning Have students back in desks to do worksheet – go over it step by Until

When they are done they can hold it up in the air for me to collect
and work on their What’s Next folders
