ACTIVITY 3

1. What is the importance of the speech to the grand narrative of Philippine

history? Explain your answer in not more than 5 sentences.

The importance of the speech is that it shows how the former president showed
the people, the society, democracy, her husband’s sacrifice which have been
known in history. It gave us information how the former president Ninoy
Aquino courageously act for the Philippines despite all the challenges that he
faced. Her speech was also a reflection of how the country was before and is
still happening today, it is an open book where we can see what we people
failed to say, and what the government failed to act. The speech was a history
and remained as a history because we are so blinded with judgments and
wants when we actually really needed democracy and right people governing
the country.

2. Identify a significant or striking line from her speech and explain its
importance. Explain in not more than 10 sentences.

“…in giving we receive, in losing we find, and out of defeat we snatched victory”

“They came to me with one cry DEMOCRACY.”

When we mean democracy we mean ruling of the majority, such as letting the
people voice out their concerns, their rights, a society that maintains equality
among the people. The quote of the former president just shows what the
people really need to get what they need not just for themselves but for the
whole country to have the same, and that is democracy. If there was no
election, presence of tampered ballots, and committing fraud, our country
must have been a lot worse than what we have today. The poor might still be
poor or worst ceased to exist. The rich might be paying a lot to live and have
power over lower people. People would always want more, need more as the
population grows, rallies might also be present or even killings. Although we
might not have what we wanted for the country or for the Filipinos, we will
soon be there, where there will be no more corruption, no fraud, no tampering
on elections, and no people will be seen sleeping on the streets because
everything is under control by a president who listens to the people and the
people who helps and voice outs what everyone needs and not just anybody’s
wants.
