Getting access
The first thing that you need is to download the zip file MattePaint Sky 2. Opening the library
Library 1.1.zip on the Drive folder or you can click this button:
Once you have PureRef installed open the MattePaint Sky-
Backplate Library.pur file (shortcut: Ctrl+L).

NOTE
Extracting the files you will get this: Due to the number of images in the file, it can take up 20gb of RAM.
Probably best to to leave it open. As this is an early release, if you
have issues with loading the file, please let us know; drop us a quick

3. Navigating through PureRef
EXE PureRef
If you are unfamiliar to using PureRef here are some tips:

1. INSTALL PureRef M ove Win d ow Right Click

If you already have installed the software in your equipment and Toggle Full - Screen M o d e Ctrl + F
you are in Windows just open the PureRef.exe file.

PureRef open the INSTRUCTIONS.txt

About this file

All images in this document come from
MattePaint.com. They are generated from our
50k 360 HDRI’s which are available.

E ach image is approximately 120 degrees FOV and

a resolution of 2,000px by 1000px. If you want a
higher resolution they are available on the
MattePaint Library at up to 16,000px wide.

More instructions follow below.

How to use
About the images
Y ou will notice each image has a watermark, this is the image filename
which can be used to find higher resolution version in our online library or

to find the HDRI sequence and frame it belongs to. For example, the
filename HDRIS011X1032-2 breaks down to:

H DRIS011 X1032 -2
Hdri Sequence 011 rame number 1032
F *View 2

*Each frame has 4 views. Use this information to find similar skies to blend together.

Manually finding

a specific image T o find the higher resolution verison of any image

To fin a specific file, just visit MattePaint.com/ Go to www.MattePaint.com/galler

gallery and search for the filename.

Select “Categories” then “Skies - HDRI Backplates”

Choose the HDRI sequence

E.g. Search:

You have the possibility of downloading the images only,
without depending on the use of PureRef. You can get the

complete library by downloading the Images Only v1.1

(optional).zip file which is available on the Drive location
below.

We regularly update this file. Each time a new HDRI is
published, we will add the backplate images to this document.
