Insertion of the laryngeal

mask airway (LMA)

Select the correct size of the

mask according to the
patient’s weight

Lubricate the posterior (even)

surface of the mask

Slightly tilt the head and

open the mouth

Introduce the LMA into the

mouth with posterior surface
facing the palate

Advance the mask till

it reaches the pharynx

The black line on the

posterior surface of the
LMA should be at the
teeth level

Have you No
successfully
inserted the LMA?
Push the mandible
Yes forward

Advance the mask

till the end

Perform ventilations
and auscultate

No
Do you hear
breath sounds?
Yes

Secure the LMA so it

remains in the middle line Remove the LMA

Attach a bag and Preform bag-mask

start ventilation ventilation

Attach oxygen to
the bag 10 l/min.
