Documents for D-4-2(General Training) Visa

[D-4-2 Visa Application Procedure]


To receive D-4-2 Visa, you first need to get “Visa Issuance Permission Number” form an Immigration Office
in Korea. To apply for the permission number, please prepare the documents listed below and send them to
the staff of your department office at KAIST.

[Documents for D-4-2 (General Training) Visa Application]


<Documents provided by invitee (intern student/visiting scholar)/외국인준비서류>
1. Application Form for Confirmation of Visa Issuance (+ Photograph x1)
- A colored ID photograph taken with the last six months
- Size: 3.5cm x 4.5cm
- For ID photos, a brighter backdrop is preferred over dark backdrops.
2. Copy of Passport
3. Certificate of enrollment (for intern students)/ Certificate of employment (for visiting scholars)
4. Certificate of final level of education (in English)
※ Those who received a diploma in China must submit an additional document verifying their diploma.

5. Curriculum Vitae
6. Financial support certificate or copy of balance sheet which shows that you have at least 500,000 KRW
per
month to cover your expenses during your stay in Korea.
7. Certificate of Health Check-up (internationals from the 18 countries* only)
- Please refer to the Health Check-up Information on the next page for the detailed information.

8. Plan for Research (Utilization) (첨부양식 “연구연수생 활용계획서” 활용)

[Important]
- All documents not written in English, an English-Translated copy must be submitted along with the original
document (Diploma, Career Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Birth Certificates etc.)
- If unable to hand in the original copy, validated copy signed by a KAIST advisor or a staff can be
submitted./ 모든 문서는 원칙적으로 원본을 제출해야 하나, 부득이 사본을 제출할 경우에는 사본에
원본대조필 도장을 찍고 담당자가 사인하여 제출.

[After completing all documents]


Invitee shall submit the documents to the staff of the inviting department of KAIST. Once all the required
documents are prepared by the department, documents shall be submitted to the ISSS (W2-1, #104).
It takes about 1 week for the visa issuance number to be issued and ISSS will send the number to the
applicant(invitee) through the staff of the inviting department.

[After receiving the Visa Issuance Number]


If applicants have visa permission number, they can visit nearby Korean embassy/consulate with 1. Passport
and 2. Visa permission number 3. Certificate of Health check-up* form(internationals from the below listed
18 countries** only) to get the visa mark on their passports.
※ It is strongly advised to check with the Korean embassy/consulate before you visit if there are other
documents or fees that you need to additionally prepare .

* [IMPORTANT] Health Check-up Information


1) Internationals who are from the below listed 18 countries** must submit the certificate of health check-
up
form to the Korean embassy/consulate to acquire a Korean visa.
** 18 countries: China, Sri Lanka, Russia, Uzbekistan, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Mongolia, Pakistan,
Indonesia, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, East Timor, Kyrgyzstan
2) Health check-up must be taken at a medical institution designated by a Korean embassy/consulate.
Please check with the embassy which hospitals you can visit for the health check-up.
3) Children under age of 5 (0~4 years old) don’t need to submit the certificate of health check-up form.
4) Please use the “18 Countries_Health Check-up Form (overseas Korean embassy)”.
5) The certificate of health check-up form must be submitted to the Korean embassy/consulate(not to
KAIST)
after receiving the visa issuance permission number.
6) If you are currently living in a country which is NOT one of the above listed 18 countries, then you DO
NOT need to submit the certificate of health check-up form, regardless of your nationality.
i.e.) If you are currently living in Finland (which is NOT one of the 18 countries), you DO NOT need to
submit the certificate of health check-up form to the embassy, even though you are from one of the
18 countries.
