Professional Communications and Engagement

As a teacher it is very important to have the confidence to communicate with your cooperating
teacher about what topic he wants me to cover with each class group and if I ever encounter any
problem communicate this with him or her. According to (Burrus, 2017), “We demonstrate
professionalism by attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors that reflect a multi-faceted approach to the
standards, regulations, and principles underlying successful clinical practice.” I feel that this can
improve the teamwork more effectively and productively together. The word professional
communication means several forms of speaking, listening, writing, and responding carried out both
in and beyond the school environment. When in the online space I feel that I find it very hard to get
all the students to engagement with the teacher. So, I decided to try and incorporate different
strategies into the online space with using the chat function. I get all the students to send into the
chat any queries they might have and I answer their questions live. I feel that this type of strategy
works well because in the class some students might not have the confidence to talk into their
microphone. Using this live chat I found all the students engaged in the lesson. When delivering
content to the students it is very important to be clear and concise. I feel that you need to be clear
with all your students so that they understand what the teacher is saying to them and be also
concise by getting straight to the point so that the teacher allows more class time for the students.
According to (Paige, 2018) ‘’a successful communicator is someone who can relay information to
others in an unambiguous way.’’

In addition, the students must listen to the teacher on what he is explaining so that he can achieve
enough work for each lesson. Engagement refers to the attention, interest, optimism, and passion
that student show towards their learning which leads to progress in their education. Listening relies
on what the teacher is telling his students, this is having good communication skills to build a good
relationship with all his students. According to (Paige, 2018) ‘’most good listeners provide speakers
with clear and unambiguous feedback.’’ When talking with the cooperating teacher he explains to
me that as the teacher you must write up reports every week that he has completed with the
students and for the board of management to make sure that they are continuing with the topics. He
said that it is very important to try and get through as much content as you can so that the board
know what stage of the course content, each teacher has completed.
