The Great, Dictator Speech:

(By Sir Charlie Chaplin)

Sir Charlie Chaplin commence his speech in a low and

soft voice. One can feel concern laced in his voice. As
he continues his speech he raises his voice a little but
speaks in same soft and calm tone. He puts emphasis on
words that show qualities and emotions of people,
things and life. His voice becomes loud, strong and
confident as he looks directly to the listeners through
his motivating words. He speaks with anger laced in
both his voice and words. He shows his disapproval of
dictatorship with his words. He ends his speech
with a powerful voice asking people and soldiers to
unite and fight for democracy.

As Sir Charlie Chaplin starts his speech with his gaze

down casted and slightly bowed head, his facial
expressions appears to be a somewhat mix of concern,
sadness, and confusion. It appears as he his lost in his
thoughts. Then he continues his speech and his
expression becomes more calm as
he raises his head looking at the camera. He focuses his
stare on the camera with furrowed brows. He has his
hands held together in front of him, he appears to be
confident. He then looks down as if directly speaking
to the people. He brings his hands to his sides as well.
His expressions laced with anger. He also continuously
raises his eyebrows and moves his head in a no. it also
appears as if his shoulders are shaking due to
anger. His expressions show his anger towards the
dictators. He speaks as he repeatedly moves his head
and looks towards the camera with a piercing, powerful
gaze and his expressions once again screaming his
anger. As he ends his speech he seems happy with a
hint of joy in his eyes when suddenly his face falls, he
seems to be sad and worried again appearing to be lost
in some thoughts as he pushes his hair back.

You Gotta Be Hungry:

(By Les Brown)

Les Brown starts off with a loud and confident voice. He puts
emphasis on words “You gotta be hungry” and hungry. He
continues speaking about his journey to become a disc
jockey. He sounds to be excited and cheerful while delivering
the speech. He changed the tone of his voice with the
change in characters which made him sound funny, making
people laugh. He speaks without a pause when he shows how
excited he was to finally work as a disc jockey. He maintains
the strong, confident, and powerful voice throughout his
speech and ends the speech cheerfully screaming
the words “I was hungry” and “you gotta be hungry.”

He continuously walks on the stage confidently during the

speech to approach and engage everyone in the audience,
looking directly towards them. He uses his hands to make
different gestures (to point, to show as if, he is driving or he is
on a call) and also moves his head in various directions and
shake it. He also shows different facial expressions such as
joy, confidence, cheerfulness etc. He seems to be very excited

and cheerful while

delivering the speech. He smiles mischievously when he tells
the audience how he got to work as a disc jockey for the first
time. As he finishes his speech he walks around the stage
with moving hands. Les Brown was confident during the
entire speech. He also used different gestures to make people
laugh and made the speech more fun and interesting.

In both the above speeches, the speakers were confident and
