Entrepreneurship
DEFINITION
Entrepreneurship is the practice of embarking on a
new business or reviving an existing business by
pooling together a bunch of resources in order to
exploit new found opportunities.
Entrepreneur
DEFINITION
According to Kuratko & Hodgetts (2007), an
entrepreneur is an innovator or developer who
recognizes and seizes opportunities; converts these
opportunities into workable/marketable ideas; adds
value through time, effort, money or skills; assumes
the risks of the competitive marketplace to
implement these ideas; realizes the rewards from
these efforts.
Technopreneurship
DEFINTION
The term technopreneurship is a fusion of two
words: technology, and entrepreneurship. It is a
kind of entrepreneurship in the field of technology.
It involves tech-savvy, creative, innovative
individuals who have a knack for taking a
calculated risk, unlike entrepreneurship, which can
sometimes be a one-person show.
It is simply entrepreneurship in a technology-
intensive context.
It is a process of merging technology prowess and
entrepreneurial talent and skills.
Technopreneur
DEFINITION
An entrepreneur who uses cutting-edge technology
to develop new business. (Daniel Mankani, 2003)
An entrepreneur who involves himself in
technological changes in producing goods and
services for his organization. (Sarimah Hanim &
Abd. Rashid,2008)
They are entrepreneurs who used “technology” as
their driven factor in transforming resources into
goods and services, creating an environment
conducive to industrial growth”.
Examples
Booking apps (Uber, Grab)
Delivery apps (Shopee, Lazada, Foodpanda, Maxim,
GrabFood, etc)
Microsoft
Apple
Game consoles
and many more!
Intrapreneurship
DEFINITION
Intrapreneurship is acting like an entrepreneur
within an established company. It’s creating a new
business or venture within an organization.
Sometimes that business becomes a new section,
or department, or even a subsidiary spinoff.
Intrapreneur
DEFINITION
Are individuals in organizations with high
entrepreneurial characteristics (Pinchot, 1985).
An entrepreneur within a large organization with
high entrepreneurial characteristics who strongly
believes in his talent and ability and has a strong
desire to create something using his own initiative
and creativity (Sarimah Hanim & Abd. Rashid,
2008).
Intrapreneur
DEFINITION
In the world corporate business, intrapreneurs
emerge as that breed who is a cross between
managers and entrepreneurs.
They work for the corporation but are given the task
of starting new ventures.
Examples
Sony (an electronics company but later Ken
Kutaragi created the Playstation)
Nintendo (originally a toy and card company, but
later created various Nintendo consoles)
Microsoft (created their own console, the Xbox)
Google (Gmail, Maps, Twitter, Slack, and Groupon
all started as their side projects)

markets, products, and technology.

Importance
TOP 5 TAKEAWAYS ON ITS IMPORTANCE
Develops and Improves Existing Enterprises
Since entrepreneurs think differently, they can
come up with innovative ways to expand and
develop the existing enterprises.
Why entrepreneurship?
REASONS WHY PEOPLE BECOME AN
ENTREPRENEUR
Their creativity doesn’t fit the corporate
environment
Perhaps one of the biggest reasons people
become self-employed is because they find it
difficult and frankly unnatural to fit the
corporate mould, work for someone else, or on
someone else’s timetable.
Why entrepreneurship?
REASONS WHY PEOPLE BECOME AN
ENTREPRENEUR
They want a lifestyle that isn’t nine-to-five
As an entrepreneur, you get to embrace odd
work hours and report to only yourself. This
means you may find yourself working 10 hour
days one week and six-hour days another, with
the freedom to do your job as needed.
Why entrepreneurship?
REASONS WHY PEOPLE BECOME AN
ENTREPRENEUR
They’re passionate about learning
Entrepreneurship is probably a great match for
you if you love to discover new information or
study up on the latest innovation. Successful
entrepreneurs are often consummate learners,
researching the biggest trends in their field and
staying on top of great ideas that are already in
the marketplace.
Why entrepreneurship?
REASONS WHY PEOPLE BECOME AN
ENTREPRENEUR
They have unconventional ideas
Many entrepreneurs struggle with thinking like
everyone else. In fact, they might feel a bit
abnormal or strange in their approach to the
world. This unconventional approach is one of
the key skills for an entrepreneur to possess, as it
allows them to think outside the box and do
things differently.
Why entrepreneurship?
REASONS WHY PEOPLE BECOME AN
ENTREPRENEUR
They want to take action
The entrepreneurship mindset is often a good fit
for those who struggle with having a job with a
boss they have to report to or get permission
from to take action. As an entrepreneur, the only
person you have to obtain permission to do
something is yourself, which allows you to
create your own opportunities.
Why entrepreneurship?
REASONS WHY PEOPLE BECOME AN
ENTREPRENEUR
They want to change the world
Changing the world may sound like a tall order,
but many entrepreneurs are motivated by a
desire to make a change in their community.
They often get into entrepreneurship because
they question the status quo and wonder if
there might be a better way to do things.
Why entrepreneurship?
REASONS WHY PEOPLE BECOME AN
ENTREPRENEUR
They seek freedom and control
As an entrepreneur, you seek the freedom to be
your own boss while also exercising complete
control over every facet of your business. This
preference is often why conventional jobs aren’t
a great fit for entrepreneurs, as they offer neither
and may not feel like much of a challenge.
Advantages and
Disadvantages
ADVANTAGES
Having a flexible schedule
One of the perks of being an entrepreneur is
that you aren’t tied down to a specific location,
or even time zone, especially if you can work
remotely from anywhere.
Some entrepreneurs embrace this lifestyle by
working from different locations around the
world, or simply from the comfort of their home
office.
Advantages and
Disadvantages
ADVANTAGES
Taking control of your income
When it comes to earning money, as an
entrepreneur, you are in charge of paying
yourself. Unlike a typical nine-to-five job, you
don’t have to wait for your paycheque to come
in or worry about whether you might get your
hours reduced or get laid off.
Advantages and
Disadvantages
ADVANTAGES
Becoming a leader
As an entrepreneur, you are a one-person show,
especially as you get your business off the
ground. This means you will need to adopt a
leadership mentality and take charge of every
facet of your company.
Advantages and
Disadvantages
DISADVANTAGES
Wearing a lot of hats
Being your own boss means you are also
responsible for every aspect of your business,
from administrative tasks to managing your
company site to finding new clients to work
itself. Entrepreneurs need to be adaptable and
willing to take on different roles as they arise,
especially in the early days.
Advantages and
Disadvantages
DISADVANTAGES
Maintaining a work-life balance
Another challenge of being an entrepreneur is
having a healthy balance between your work life
and your personal life. Starting your own
company can be all-consuming and take up all
of your time. You may find yourself sacrificing
sleep and relationships in favor of work.
Advantages and
Disadvantages
DISADVANTAGES
Managing tax and financial concerns
As an entrepreneur, you will need to study up
on filing your taxes properly, including tax
deductions, with the help of a licensed
accountant. Managing your taxes as an
entrepreneur is important, as you want to
ensure you can stay in business long term and
turn a profit.
