CONSTRUCTION METHODS AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Overview.

This module deals with the principles of construction methods, equipment,


management and their applications. The students are expected to gain knowledge,
understand and explain the different concepts, methods, approaches and underlying the
concepts on organization, safety, information and computer applications.

D. Course Description :
The course aims at teaching the students about the fundamental
concepts, methodologies and construction techniques and application of
construction methods and project management.

E. Number of Units : 3 Units


F. Number of Hours : 3 Hours per Week
G. Total Number of Hours : 54 Hours
H. Course Requirements :
1. Grading System

2. The student must obtain an average of 50% or higher in order to pass
the subject.
3. The student should attend classes regularly and must come to class on
time with proper uniform. However, the students may get absent
anytime provided they will not exceed 20% of the total number of hours
allotted for the semester.
4. The students are required to have lecture notes for the course.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the student must be able to
1. Understand the construction project cycle from inception, planning,
execution, testing and certification.
2. Understand construction project requirements such as permits and
licenses, clearances and compliance to all applicable laws and
ordinances, etc.
3. Read and Interpret construction plans, working drawings and revise
contract documents, estimates and technical specifications;

4. Understand the components of the Terms of Reference (TOR) for


professional services and bidding/tendering processes, award and
acceptance.
5. Prepare and update construction schedule and work programs.
6. Understand construction methods, equipment, materials and manpower
control.
7. Understand Temporary facilities requirements of a construction project.
8. Understand local labor laws and regulations.

Course Policies and standard:


1. Proper Grooming
Proper school uniform with ID’s will be worn at all times as
prescribed by the University.
Gentlemen: Length of hair should follow the standard haircut with
ears visibly seen.
Ladies: Unnecessary accessories are prohibited.
For Online Classes : Wear proper attire.
2. Attendance and Tardiness
Attendance is a must and will be checked every meeting.
Students who arrive 15 minutes after the start of the class will be
considered late.
3. Academic Integrity
All forms of cheating and plagiarism are strictly prohibited. Anyone
who violates will be dealt with disciplinary action.
Distribution of Instructional Material without author’s permission is
prohibited.
Submission of activities must be on time and on the prescribed
dates only. (Based on class schedule)
4. Dropping
A student is considered officially dropped upon submission of the
instructor’s copy of the duly accomplished dropping slip before the
scheduled deadline of the dropping.
5. Electronic Devices and Classroom Etiquette
Students are expected to actively participate in the discussion and
learning activities. Disruptive noise, language and gestures are
sternly forbidden during class.
6. Makeup Exams
Any missed written examinations, Quizzes, homework and activities will
have a grade of zero unless justifiable reason with proof are provided.

Values and Gender Sensitivity:


Students are required to use gender sensitive language and visual materials in oral and
visual presentations.
The members of the group in any activities shall be selected randomly.
All students are required to perform actual demonstration of class/ activities through
presentations..
