INTRODUCTION

DEFINITION OF TERMS
A. Administrative – space for offices and counters for Hospital administrator, and other
Hospital staffs.
1. Main entrance lobby – a drop off space intended to receive the most traffic flow of
the building.
2. Main waiting area – should be large enough to accommodate visitors and patients
and well-designed keeping the psyche of the visitors in mind.
3. Information desk and switchboard – space where the first and last area clients
visit, and thus it is on the frontlines of keeping customer happy.
4. Admitting office – admit, transfer and discharge patients. Should be close or
adjacent to emergency service, outpatient department, laboratory, radiology and cashier.
5. Medical record room – it contains health record as well as any electronically stored
variant of the traditional paper files contains proper identification of patient.
6. Medical library – space to assist health professionals in finding health and scientific
information to improve.
7. Business center – space for business office manager who oversees day to day
activities or more functions within a hospital’s business office.
8. Staff conference and lounge room – essential space for meetings
9. Toilet facilities – small room used for privately accessing the sanitation fixture for
urination and defecation. Should follow the design standard provided by DOH or NBC.
10. Cashiers office – space for billing after discharge of patient.
11. Vault room – secured room for most valued properties like money and important
records of hospital
12. Staff office – the office is responsible for all doctor credentials, committee meetings
and doctor functions.
13. Chief accountant and staff office – space for day to day accounting operations.
14. Pharmacy room – Drugs storage
15. Drug store – s shop where you can buy medicine
16. Pharmacist office – responsible for the procurement, storage, dispensing
preparation, distribution and inventory of medications to optimize drug-therapy
management of inpatient and outpatients.
17. Doctors office/ secretary / file room – a place for a doctor where paper works are
done.
18. Hospital directors office – a place where the director handle decisions and
strategic planning of the organization.
19. Asst. directors office – assist the director in the over sight and direction of health
care unit, adjacent to Director’s office.
20. Chief nurse and staff / secretary – responsible for maintaining clinical and patient-
care standards
21. Lockers room – storage for personal belongings of Hospital staffs.
22. Janitorial space – space for caretaker who cleans and maintains the building.
B. Out-patient Department – a hospital department/unit where nonurgent medical care is
provided.
1. Waiting area – should be large enough to accommodate visitors and patients and
well-designed keeping the psyche of the visitors in mind.
2. Social service room – developing and implementing a patient’s plan of care. Working
with agencies or insurance companies to cover cost of treatment and medication.
3. Consultation room – a room where a doctor examines a patient and discusses their
medical problems with them.
4. Examination and treatment room – a place for patients that needs medical care.
5. Utility room – a room or area with fixtures used for cleaning and disinfecting soled
patent-care items.
6. Examination room – entry point for ill or injured patient.
7. Toilet facilities – small room used for privately accessing the sanitation fixture for
urination and defecation. Should follow the design standard provided by DOH or NBC.
8. Immunization room – space for vaccination.
9. Solution room (sterilizer) – integrated place in hospital that performs sterilization
and other action on medical devices.
10. Men and women locker rooms with T&B – storage for personal belongings of
Hospital staffs.
11. Lounge room with kitchenette – an area for staff to rest and eat their meals.
12. Dental clinic with dental laboratory – a place where dentist performs dental
procedures and treatment on patients.
13. Fracture room with splint and plaster closet – a place where patients with bone
joint, and soft tissue injuries were treated.
14. Eye, ear, nose and throat (EENT) – a place where patients with eye, ear nose and
throat were treated.
C. Surgical Department / Emergency Services – emergency gateway to the hospital patients
with pain agony relative emotionally charged enter the emergency department at any hour of the
day or night.
1. Ambulance parking – there should be sufficient space for each parked ambulance
open/close all doors when the bay is full without with walls, pillars, equipment or other
ambulances.
2. Emergency lobby – a space from which one or more rooms or corridors can be
accessed.
3. Emergency and treatment rooms – a room that provides physical treatment of a
patient.

D. Maternity Department And Nursery – specializes for women during pregnancy and
childbirth.
1. Delivery rooms – is one of the versatile rooms in a hospital. It is called a labor,
delivery, and recovery room.
2. Scrub-up – a special unit in the hospital where pregnant women give birth to babies.
3. Labour rooms – is one of the versatile rooms in a hospital. It is called a labor,
delivery, and recovery room.
4. Clean-up sterile rooms – a room where nurses and doctors clean and disinfect kits
used after emergency treatment.
5. Nurses station – an area of a health care facility, which nurses and other health care
staff work behind when not working directly with patients and where they can perform
some of their duties.
6. Nursery (full-term)at least 12-bassiness – a space where babies stay in a bassinet
in the room with Mom.

E. Pediatric Department – department deals with the health and medical care of infants,
children and adolescents from birth up to age of 18.
1. 4 private wards with locker and T&B – single bed that gives privacy for fee paying
patients
2. Pay ward with shower and toilet – a large room for the accommodation of several
patients.
3. Ward for 6 beds (men) - – a large room for the accommodation of male patients.
4. Ward for 6 beds (women) – a large room for the accommodation of female patients.
5. Dayroom – pace for relaxation of patients during the day.
6. Playroom / space – space for children being able to play while in a hospital. It helps
children to learn, develop and to feel less anxious and cope with treatment.

from medications and surgical kits to diagnostic tool, linens, protective equipment, and

5. Bacteriology – study of microorganisms and their effect on animals. Bacteriologist
may work closely with other scientist to conduct research experiment and learn more
about microorganisms.
6. Urinalysis – a urinalysis is a simple test that looks at a small sample or your urine.
7. Serology – a medical scientist who specializes in blood serum analysis.
8. Histology (animal tissue) – a histology or histotechnician, prepares tissue samples
for a pathologist to study.
9. Biochemistry – space for biochemist who studies bacteria, viruses, and other
organism to better understand the chemical basis of life.
10. Haematologist (blood) – a space where a haematologist treats conditions that
affect the blood and organs that make the blood.
11. Washing and sterilizing room – a place where all cleaning, disinfection, and
sterilization takes place.
12. Blood bank room – a place where blood is collected from donors, typed, separated
into components, stored, and prepared for transfusion to recipients.
13. Library room – space to assist health professionals in finding health and scientific
information to improve.

G. Autopsy and Morgue Room – a refrigerated space for the storage of human corpses.
H. General Services – responsible for the hospital security, maintenance and others.
