1. SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The Free hands system consists of the following units:

ID card type A2C53258980 which includes a 433.92 MHz transmitter, a 125 kHz
receiver and a 125 kHz transponder

- ID card type A2C53258981 which includes a 433.92 MHz transmitter and

a 125 kHz transponder. The A2C53258981 is a reduced assembly variant of
the A2C53258980.

- Card reader type A2C53185186 which includes a 125 kHz transceiver

- Body controller (BCM) type A2C533 102 40 / S180071301A which

includes a 125 kHz transmitter and a 433.92 MHz receiver. The BCM drives
6 external dedicated coil antennas for the 125 kHz transmission. 2 are
located in the doors handles, 1 in the Trunk, and 3 inside of the car.
A PCB antenna inside BCM is used for the 433.92 MHz reception.

2. CAR ACCESS
There are two ways to lock or unlock the doors of the car:

- The first way is to use the remote control mode by pressing one of the “Lock” or
“Unlock” buttons on the ID card. Data frames are then transmitted at 433.92
MHz from the ID card to the car. The BCM processes the frames received and
when the code is correct, the doors are locked or unlocked automatically.
-
This function is allowed using the ID cards A2C53258980 and the variant
A2C53258981.

- The second way is to use the free hand mode.

Unlocking the vehicle :

When the sensor located in the door detects the hand, the BCM transmits data
frames at 125 kHz . When the ID card receives the data and recognizes the
content of the inquiry, it transmits the code to the car at 433.92 MHz. The BCM
processes the frames received and when the code is correct, the doors are
automatically unlocked.

Locking the vehicle :

As soon as the door is closed the car transmits inquiries at 125 kHz to the ID
card. If the ID card is located in one of the doors antenna field, it transmits the
answer at 433.92 MHz and the vehicle remains in an unlocked state. When the
ID leaves the neighbourhood of the vehicle, the ID sends at 433.92 MHz a
request to lock. The BCM processes the frames received and then the vehicle is
locked.
This function is allowed using the ID card A2C53258980 only.

3. ENGINE START

There are two ways to start the engine:

- The first way is to insert the ID card in to the Card reader and to press the
“START” button on the dashboard. Each ID card has a transponder. When the
“START” button is pressed, the BCM sends a ‘transponder” recognition order to
the Card reader. Receiving this order, the Card reader performs a ‘transponder”
authentication using 125 kHz transceiver. The Card reader sends the
authentication result to the BCM. The central unit sends the start order to the
engine control unit.

This function is allowed using the ID cards A2C53258980 and the variant
A2C53258981.

The second way is to use the free hand mode:

- the user does not need to insert the ID card into the Card reader. When the
“START” button is pressed, the BCM sends a recognize order at 125 kHz link via
ferrite coil antennas. Receiving this order, the ID card sends authentication at
433.92 MHz.
This function is allowed using the ID card A2C53258980 only. In this case the card
reader is used as a backup solution. It is used only if the free hand mode does
not work.

4. LOCA PASE FOR TPMS

Stimulation management for LocAI Data LF.

PASE LF antennas are used to perform auto learning and auto localisation of
Wheel Unit

1.1. USE OF THE 2 LF FRAMES.

The two LF Data frames (LF Data LocStatus and LF Data Trig) are used to carry out the
global function:
• To switch the WUs in permanent LF listening mode and to ask the WU for LF status
• To trig the WUs

1.2.1. Five LF Areas

1.2.1.1.Wake Up and Status phase

During Wake up and Status phase, the 4 WU mounted on the vehicle have to receive the LF
Data LocStatus frames emitted by the vehicle.
In this way, 2 LF Area are used sequencially.
The vehicle first trig on side 1 and CALIB_INTER_LF_STATUS later on side 2.

1.2.1.2.LF Trig phase

During LF Trig phase, the driver shall trig only the 2 wheels mounted on the side we want to
localize.
3 LF Areas are used.
When a localization is done on side1, the driver send LF Data Trig using the LF Area3 every
CALIB_INTER_LF_TRIG during CALIB_TIME_LOC2WHEELS.
When a localization is done on side2, the driver send LF Data Trig using the LF Area4 every
CALIB_INTER_LF_TRIG during CALIB_TIME_LOC2WHEELS.
When a localization is done on trunk, the driver send LF Data Trig using the LF Area5 every
CALIB_INTER_LF_TRIG during CALIB_TIME_LOC2WHEELS.

1.2.2. Antenna configuration of LF emission: LF Area

To localize on one side, an LF data trig is send on this side.
On opposite side, a destroy bit is sent in order to kill the LF Data frame inhibiting a high
transition of a Manchester bit. LF field of the destroy bit signal received at wheel unit level
shall be at least equal to the LF Data trig fiels level received on this side.
