A study of the most preferred activities a Filipino


adolescent would like to carry out on social media

Introduction

This study will developed a conceptual model regarding the  most preferred activities a
Filipino adolescent would like to carry out on social media. The paper describes a conceptual
framework for understanding Filipino adolescent social media use. This study aims to address the
following research questions: (1) What are the most preferred activities a Filipino adolescent would
like to carry out on social media? (2) Why do Filipino adolescents choose these as their most
preferred activities to carry out on social media? (3) What is the use of social media for Filipino
adolescents? The results are expected to enhance understanding of the most preferred social media
activities among filipino adolescence, provide recommendations for schools and government
education authorities, and Gain competitive intelligence from social media data.

Method

This survey's population sample consists of Filipino adolescents aged 15 to 20. The method
used is an online survey, which uses a self-administered approach: the survey is administered
without the actual presence of the researcher, and the respondents are expected to complete the
survey independently. The survey questionnaire is meticulously designed in order to calibrate the
preferences of the target population.

Result and analysis

According to the survey, 66.7 percent of respondents said they would suggest social media to
their family and friends on a scale of 5/5, while 16.7 percent said they would recommend it on a
scale of 4/5, and another 16.7 percent said they would recommend it on a scale of 3/5. They all
have a Facebook account, 66.7 percent have an Instagram account, 50 percent have a Twitter
account, and 16.7 percent have accounts on linked, tiktok, and YouTube. They also stated in the
survey that they check in to their social media accounts daily in any given week. With a response
rate of 83.3 percent, Facebook is also the most frequently visited social media website, followed by
Instagram, with a response rate of 16.7 percent.

The respondents also stated that they have an average of 1683 friends on their social media.
66.7 percent of the respondents only meet half of their friends on social media, while 16.7 percent
meet most of them and 16.7 percent meet all of them. 50 percent of the respondents are Moderately
often post pictures, comments etc. on their social media  while the remaining 50 percent are divided
among the extremly often, very often, and slightly often. 50 percent of the respondents are Extremly
often use the chat app on their social media accounts while the other 50 percent is on very often.
16.7 percent stated that they use their social media accounts to log in to other websites, 33.3
percent are on most of the time and 50 percent on about half of the time. 50 percent of respondents
followed 10–50 celebrities on social media, 33.3 percent followed 0–10, and 16.7 percent followed
more than 100.

50 percent would spend 3–4 hours on social media, 33.3 percent would spend more than 4
hours, and 16.7 percent would spend an hour. 100 percent of the respondents chose to make
friends and to socialize casually as the purpose of using social media, 83.8 percent are for academic
purposes, and 33.3 percent are for promoting products and services. 66.7 of the respondents chose
to spend their time on any spare time, while 33.3 chose to spend their time during their free time.
Before going to bed, 88.3 percent of respondents checked their social media, while 16.7 percent
chose "maybe." 88.3 percent also agreed that social media affected their relationship with loved
ones, and 16.7 percent did not. 50 percent of the repondent denied considering themelf addicted to
social media and the other 50 chose maybe.

Conclusion

Considering that the majority of the respondents would recommend social media to family and
friends, and all of the respondents even check in daily, it shows that social media is becoming a
part of Filipino adolescents' many activities. All of the respondents have Facebook accounts, and it
is the most visited social media website. Respondents check-in on social media daily. The majority
of the respondents post pictures, comments, etc. on social media and use the chat app for more
than 3 hours. Therefore, to sum it all up, Filipino adolescents use social media to make friends,
socialize, and for academic purposes. The survey also showed the information to gain competitive
intelligence, which can be of use in promoting products or services.
