General Information
PORTABLE STABILITY
This stability spreadsheet performs the simple calculations required to determine a vessel's
stability in the same fashion as would be used for a long-hand procedure.
It is meant to be adaptable to any small vessel and is not specific in it's outlay. For this reason
the graphs are simple and the data for them runs to 90 Degrees. Even though you may only
have tables that run up to 60 Degrees, the graph will still plot to 90 Degrees. As this will give
an odd shape to the end of the graph, you will need to interpolate the results and assess the
result.
You use this spreadsheet at your own risk. Mistakes can be made when entering data and
all care should be taken during this operation. You MUST use the vessel's approved
stability booklet as a reference at all times.
The only entries that you need to make are on the Weights page and in the Tables page. These
entries are made in the yellow shaded cells only and the other cells are locked out to protect
the formulae and the resultant data. If you try to enter data in a wrong cell a warning appears.
The Constants rows are all locked.
The following convention has been used.
Green cells are standard headings & labels etc. They are locked.
Green cells & blue figures are standard for the particular ship. Once entered they are locked
Yellow cells contain data entered from the Stability Booklet for each condition. Unlocked.
White cells contain formulae. They are locked.
Most figures are rounded to display only 2 or 3 decimal places. This means some calculations
appear not quite correct at first sight. The formulae actually calculate to at least 7 decimal
points. You must always enter the full figure when inputting from the stability booklet.
Print areas for each sheet have been set. To print individual pages in the Workbook just click
on the one required then click on the Print Icon. To print the whole Workbook, click on File
then Print and select Entire Workbook
This spreadsheet has been proven for Total Voyager against
loading conditions 2 & 3 and needs no adjustment.
