Defiant Character Creation Guide

Before you start


Go through the checklist below:
o Have you chosen the Game Master in your group?
o Has the GM read through all the required chapters?
o Do all the Players know the information from the Introduction?
o Did you read the Province Brochure or talked about the Province?
o Do you understand how the Line and the Veil cards work?
o Did you talk about the “Crossing the Line” list?
o Do you have the Character Creation Cards ready?
o Do you have the Character Sheets ready?
o Do you have the dice ready (at least a single d6, d8, and d10)?

Drawing cards Fleshing out the Character
Sort all the Character Creation Cards by their type: After you’ve picked all of the Character Creation Cards,
follow the steps below:
o Origin-exclusive Personal Theme Cards
o Personal Theme Cards Pick a valid Character Sheet
o House Cards Every Defiant Origin has their own Character Sheet.
o Marital Cards
o Court Cards Give your Character a name
o Holding Cards Choose it from their House’s names list or come up with your own.
Shuffle each group individually. Choose the details of your Origin Powers
3–player groups Write them down on the Character Sheet.
1) Draw three Origin-exclusive Personal Theme Cards and choose one. Choose your Character’s Traits
2) Draw four general Personal Theme Cards each choose two.
Pick one Trait from each Trait set and come up with a Unique Trait.
3) Choose your House and take the appropriate House Card.
4) Draw three Marital Cards and choose one. Choose the details of your Spouse
5) Draw three Court Cards and choose one.
Write it down, along with the information on your House.
6) Draw two Holding Cards and choose one.
Choose the details of your Court
2-player groups
Consult the Court Card and write down all the required information.
1) Take the “No Origin-exclusive Theme” Card and put in on the table.
2) Draw four Origin-exclusive Personal Themes and choose one or take Choose the details of your Holding
the Card from the table. Answer the questions and create at least a single Facility.
3) Draw six Personal Theme Cards and choose two.
4) Choose your House and take the appropriate House Card. Write down the details
5) Discard one random Holding Card, Marital Card, and Court Card. Note your Personal Theme names and all three Troubles.
6) Draw four Marital Cards and choose one.
7) Draw four Court Cards and choose one.
8) Draw three Holding Cards and choose one.
The Pilot Episode
Single-player After you finished creating the Characters, each Character takes the Pilot
Court Challenge and plays out the Scene.
By default, a single Player should choose all the Cards for their Character,
rather than picking them at random. You can also draw the cards
following the 3-player or 2-player group rules.
