Over 10,000 schools have been given permission to restart limited in-person programs,

according to the Department of Education.

According to a Department of Education (DepEd) official, over 10,000 public and private
institutions have been authorized to resume limited face-to-face classes.

"A total of 9,994 public schools and 212 private schools are now enrolled in the program." Ito

"In reality, many of these have already reopened for) restricted face-to-face classes." "There are
a total of 10,196 schools that are participating," he continued.

According to Garma, DepEd regional offices have nominated 14,396 public and private schools
with 2.6 million students to resume restricted in-person sessions.

Nominated schools, according to Garma, are those that have already completed the COVID-19
School Safety Assessment Tool. He did point out, however, that these institutions may or may
not have received approval from their individual local government bodies.

Following a pilot run of physical lessons last year, President Rodrigo Duterte accepted the
Department of Education's proposal in January to extend in-person classes at public and private
schools in areas under Alert Levels 1 and 2.
In February, the Department of Education expanded the "progressive expansion" of face-to-face
sessions to include more grade levels. Only kindergarten, Grades 1–3, and senior high school
students were allowed to participate in the experimental run of in-person classes prior to this.

Participating schools are required to comply with DepEd’s School Safety Assessment Tool,
should be located in areas under Alert Levels 1 and 2, and secure concurrence from the local
government unit. Students participating in the in-person classes must have a written consent
from their parents, and only vaccinated teachers may hold the classes.
