Considering the current situation in the Philippines, why do you think it is important for

Filipinos to study and understand our country’s past? As a nation, are there significant
learnings from our history which we can we learn from in order for the Philippines to
move forward to a progressive country?

As Filipino citizens, we must be cognizant of the rich history our country encompasses. Why? It is our
responsibility as residents to be informed about the hardships our ancestors went through to give us the
present democracy that we’re enjoying right now. As the saying goes, “A person without the knowledge
of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” We are tied to our country; no other
place can make you feel at home other than your native land. Not only that, the Philippines ’ past
embodies fascinating customs, values, society, and heritage that we could learn a lot from and that we
could be proud of. Take, for instance, the Cry of Pugad Lawin through which it became a symbol of revolt
and the start of the conquest for the country’s independence. So as to be a step nearer to leaping forward
to a progressive country, we should be aware first of the problem at hand or the issue that all of us are
facing right now. Everyone should be on the same page of wanting, desiring, and craving for a better and
grittier Philippines thus it is demanded from us, Filipinos most especially the youths to be in this fight
together as we refuse to be under the same regime of corrupted political leaders for numerous times
already. We need to cry out and voice our loudest thought and constructive criticisms for that is what our
country deserves. Now that the election is upcoming, let this be a symbol of our revolt to be governed by
people who steal on our wealth, being the parasite that hinders our country from moving forward.
