HERE I AM TO WORSHIP

HILLSONG WORSHIP

Light of the world Here I am to worship

You stepped down into darkness Here I am to bow down
Opened my eyes, let me see Here I am to say that You're my God
Beauty that made this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with You You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Here I am to worship Altogether wonderful to me
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that You're my God Well, I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross
You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy Well, I'll never know how much it cost
Altogether wonderful to me To see my sin upon that cross

King of all days Well, I'll never know how much it cost
Oh so highly exalted To see my sin upon that cross
Glorious in heaven above
Humbly You came to the earth You created Well, I'll never know how much it cost
All for love's sake became poor To see my sin upon that cross

SONG ANALYSIS

We are aware that man is composed of body and soul. Many times, because of
pride, we give more attention to the body; therefore, the soul is neglected. Since these
two are components of our being, then we should have proper discernment in order to
have a meaningful life. Christian spirituality intervenes with the kind of life we choose in
becoming closer to our Creator. In consonance with this, we have chosen the song
entitled “Here I am to Worship” which manifests our idea of the three approaches of
Christian spirituality: historical, theological, and anthropological.

According to Scheneider, “Spirituality as lived and experience takes place only in

time and space”. In this case, we can connect the historical approach by looking back
through time and space. We can trace the time when God the Father sent His only
begotten Son to save mankind from the punishment of sins. After the death and
resurrection of Christ, He went back to heaven and sat toward the right hand of the
Father. Jesus did not totally abandoned mankind. He gave the Holy Spirit for man’s
enlightenment and guidance. This exactly relates to the lyrics, “Well, I'll never know how
much it costs, To see my sin upon that cross” which make us realize of life’s state of sin.
This is the history where we received true forgiveness and the history that tells and
reminds us that because of God's grace and unconditional love, we can all have salvation
and eternal life.

In His life on earth, Jesus spent His time in spreading God’s Word as
commissioned by His heavenly Father. He also went around doing miracles. In doing so,
He was followed by thousands of people. Theological approach focuses more on our
faith in God and how we practice it in accordance with the doctrines, liturgy, and the
creed of the Christian church. Having faith is more than reading or listening to the gospel,
but faith is truly manifested when your beliefs are aligned with your actions. A lot of
people may have gone through rough roads already, but because of their faith and
conviction, no storm or any other hindrances can stop them from believing that there is a
supreme Being who is in control of their lives. The part of the song which says “Here I
am to worship, Here I am to bow down, Here I am to say that You're my God" struck us
the most.  God is not asking anything in return for all the good things he has done for us,
but to show our gratitude, we shall never end worshiping and adoring Him for He is the
very reason that we have experienced the beauty of life.

We are like Christ detractors when we go on committing sins without repenting

for them. We deny His gift of redemption; therefore, our actions are not according to the
will of God. If we assess what is happening in our world now, this is an indication that
we do not value Christ’s gift to us, His saving power. Addiction, blasphemies, merciless
killings, corruptions, and many other forms of evil continue to penetrate in every
community. The world which is given to us as a paradise turns out to be a chaotic place
submerged in lots of troubles and misunderstandings. The scenarios mentioned fall under
the anthropological approach which talks about what makes us human. It is true that to
err is but human; therefore, there is always a way to rectify it if a mistake was done. In
connection to the lyrics, “Light of the world, You stepped down into darkness, Opened
my eyes let me see, Beauty that made this heart adore you, Hope of a life spent with you”
we are given the chance to have a beautiful life filled with purpose, but when we engage
ourselves to selfish and evil acts, we deprive ourselves the value God has given us.
Whether we have the ability or not to lift ourselves up, this approach emphasizes that we
are all equal in the sight of God; thus, we shall live the way God intended us to live.

The future of any nation lies in the hands of the present generation. We are
witnesses of the moaning and deterioration of Mother Earth. Besides, we are very much
affected by the chaotic condition of our country. We, the youth, are expected to make a
dramatic change in the existing scenario of our society. Indeed, we have a great role in
rebuilding the destroyed gift of God to humanity. We shall all together stand to make
people realize that despite of all the traumatic events happening in our world, there is still
hope and that hope is God.
