APPROACHES TO THE PAPER

approach tothetexts.
Thorough
Discourage
"
summaries and made easies."

Encourage a great deal of discussion in class-

how and why, what is your response to, what
do you feel about the conclusion, which clues
in the chapter lead you to think.. and so on.

Let the students absorb the essence of the

story or poem so that they can answer any
question set on them
Let the students identify turning points in the
play/poem/ story.

Discuss why they think the turning point

it is

in the text- how does it aid/ prompt our

understanding of the piece?

Ask them to suggest alternate titles and give

reasons for their choice.

Character study.
Answering the question pape:
They have attempted MCQs in the previous
semester.
Section B will require training. The students
should not find this difficult if they have been
trained in the structured questions (5+5+5)in
Class XI.

There is no scope to ramble or write long

involved answers.
They must answerto the point. The length of
an answer for each question which will carry 4
marks each, should not be more than 100-150
words.
The students should read the question
carefully to determine what is required.

They must remember that they are writing for

4 marks so precision is required.
Students could be asked to write an answer to
a question in about 10 minutes. After that
they should stop writing.
They should be prompted to analyze whythey
did/ did not complete their answer.
Let them edit their answers themselves/
through a class discussion.
In a way, their summary writing skills should
help them.
No extraneous matter should be written. They
will be only wasting time and penalizing
themselves.
The questions may be textual, conceptual, and
character based.Personal point of view might
be asked.
