Discuss Metaphors: - Start with A Metaphor is a comparison without using like or as (draw a forbidden like or as on the bored) - Move to a metaphor is like a math formula where a=b. A would be something usually a noun and B would be something else (could also be a noun). - Go to examples. On Page Discuss Personification: - This is where objects or ideas are given human characteristics, abilities, or qualities. - Go to examples. On Page Discuss Synecdoche: - This is where a part represents the whole. Go to examples. On Page Game Time: in small groups (which I will decide) students will work together to decide whether each sentence has examples of metaphor, personification, or synecdoche. - The students will have 3 pieces of paper which will have 3 words on ED 2500 Orientation to Teaching Instructor: Kurtis Hewson

Closure (3 min) (Finish: 3:15)

them (metaphor, personification, and synecdoche) - Once the sentence is on the board they will have a small amount of time (tops 1 minute) to decide what part of speech it is. - I will call for answers and each group will display the piece of paper with the name on it that they believe to be the answer. Each correct answer will receive 1 point. Discuss - Groups will tally points - We will cover again each part of speech. This time students will tell me what each part is and an example.
