When I was young, people tend to portray that money is not in the same house with happiness
and love, and worse, money is the opposite of happiness and love. Even worse yet, due to
religion lessons in school, people believe that the rich can't go to Heaven, simply because they're
rich. And whenever one heard about someone making a lot of money, they simply said, "Must be
through some sort of corruption or illegal things, I guess."

Until years later after finishing high school, I read lots of books about success, inspiration,
motivation, and so forth, and I finally conclude that money is a different story to happiness and
love. A simple poem which I didn't remember all, but even a line will inspire us already.

Money can buy the most expensive bed, but can't buy good sleep.
Money can buy lots of books, but can't buy intelligence and cleverness.
Money can buy medicines, but can't buy health.
Money can buy a big house, but can't buy a family happiness.

Worse yet, it was stated that money can't buy friendship and Heaven at all.

Not long after reading the above simple poem, I read a contra poem:

Money can't buy good sleep indeed. But sleep is better with a comfortable bed rather than no
bed at all.
Money can't buy intelligence. But how do you get intelligent without books?
Money can't buy health. If you can't buy medicines, how do you recover from illness and get
healthy?
Money can't buy family happiness. But a big and comfortable house, it's easier to be happy.
Money can't buy love. But if you don't have any money, what will your love mean?
With money, I can still attract more friends.
With money, I can do more good deeds which will give me an easier path to Heaven.
Poor people seldom get good sleep. They are often worried about their life in the coming days.
Poor people have harder times developing special talents of their children, because they can't
afford to pay tuition fees.
Money is the main reason for divorce, more than any other reasons combined.
o, I simply conclude that: the rich can either be happy or unhappy. The poor can also be either
happy or unhappy.
Anyway, it's easier for the ric h to be happy.
An old saying states: money is the root of all evil. Someone disagreed and modified it to: love of
money is the root of all evil.
I disagreed further and now, I can simply say: lack of wisdom is the root of all evil.
Even if someone loves money, with sufficient wisdom, he can still pursues money in the proper
ways and with the same wisdom, he can understand he can still earn money in the future, and
therefore, whenever needed, he can donate it to other people.
If you don't love money, how do you expect money to come to you? How will you live with no
money?
Without sufficient wisdom, people will get blinded with a simple amount of money and forget
other more important things that one may not be able to pursue in the future.
If a friend is gravely ill and needs money, with sufficient wisdom, one can understand: money can
be earned later, but this friend will be lost if not helped now. Once the friend is lost, there's no
way to bring him back.

Should money be a yardstick for happiness?

Goodmorning honourable judges, respected teachers and dear friends .. I am Shivani Bhatnagar
And it is my honour and pleasure to be on this stage this moment . The motion for debate is whether
money should be a yardstick for measuring happiness and I shall be speaking against the motion.

We grow up hearing that money can not buy happiness , we are also told to study well and get
professional degrees so that we get a good job and be successful and happy in life.

Contradicting , isnt it?

Is money synonymous with happiness?
