Volunteer News

Shaparak Khorsandi began volunteering for a charitable organization.

She went to meet 200 Afghan refugees who had recently fled Afghanistan
with members of West London Welcome. There were 70 youngsters
among them.

Meeting the right volunteers and dedicated staff of their grassroots

charity, who spend countless hours looking after vulnerable, traumatized,
and befuddled newcomers to the community, is never a waste of time.

She bounded out of there, recalling why she had contacted West
London. The overwhelming sense of helplessness she felt as she watched
Afghanistan slide back into Taliban hands, witnessing all those people cling
to planes, and hearing about Taliban critics being executed.

The community contributed toys and toiletries, fully aware that they
were giving gifts rather than jumble. Treating vulnerable people with
dignity demonstrates how much we value their own dignity.

We chose this news to explain that volunteering has a great impact on

society.

People of all ages can participate in volunteering actions, helping to

improve the world, regardless of the purpose of the action.

Polish volunteers have been driving Ukrainian refugees to local train
stations or directly to cities like Warsaw along the Poland-Ukraine border.

Other Poles are pairing Ukrainian refugees with the most generous
volunteers of all: those who are housing some of the more than 2 million
Ukrainians who have fled their besieged country in their own homes,
either online or at railway stations and airports.

The largest refugee influx in Europe since the 1990s Yugoslav wars has
prompted a massive volunteer humanitarian effort throughout Europe,
particularly in Poland, Germany, Moldova, and Romania.

We chose this news to show that volunteering is necessary

even in times of war.
If we all contribute, even in a single part, we can help people
who need something or who are at risk of life.
