NEWS WRITING EXERCISE!

1 SERIOUSLY WOUNDED, AND 4 WERE KILLED BY SUSPECTED NPA’S

One seriously wounded, and four were killed by the suspected New People’s Army in
Calatrava town, Negros Occidental at about 3:30 pm.
According to Negros Occidental Police Director, Senior Supt. Charles Calima, the RPA-
ABB members were hanging out in front of the store owned by Irinea Maasin. Maasin’s store
is located in Sitio Camachile, Bgy. Dolis in Calatrava town. Calima also said - the NPA rebels
used their short firearms when they repeatedly shot at the victims. The assailants took the
long firearms of the victims. Those firearms were used to shoot the victims at close range.
The assailants made sure that the victims were indeed dead.
Revolutionary Proletarian Army Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA- ABB) team leader Eleazar
Lumanot, Dionisio Castillo, Carlos Delima and Eusebio Alcobar,17 years old were the
fatalities identified by the police. They are all from Calatrava town. Eleazar’s brother, Felipe
Lumanot, was seriously wounded and suffered multiple bullet wounds. The wounded
remained in serious condition and will be stayed in the district hospital in San Carlos City.
Two M-16 rifles, an M-14 rifle, a Garrand and an M203 grenade launcher were taken
from the victims.
