Monthly Learning Diary

In this month, I’ve really learned a lot especially about the history of the railway in the Philippines and the
current status of the railway projects in the Philippines. This month we focused only on the history and
core values needed to succeed on the railway industry. In our first week, we tackled about the
development of railway systems, self-motivation and Filipino Ingenuity in the railway workforce. I've
discovered that our country's railway system was once the best in Asia, but it is currently falling behind
and suffering several issues. However, with the vast building of the railway system, we hope to attain this
milestone again in order to move more people and freight and to have seamless connectivity in the
country's major urban areas.

In our week 2, we continued tackling about self-motivation, professional demeanor, 4c’s of

communication. In the topic of self-motivation, I discovered that being motivated will assist any employee
continue to strive for a greater goal. However, if the employees are self-motivated, it will assist them in
becoming the finest version of themselves. Trying to maintain one's self-motivation is difficult but
rewarding. Challenging in the sense that there will be roadblocks along the way, but an employee will be
able to figure out how to overcome them, learn from them, and eventually achieve his goals. I also learned
how to conduct yourself properly in any workplace. Proper and neat look, as well as a positive attitude,
are required when going to work in order to maintain a healthy and safe workplace. Respect is the most
crucial thing to practice in the workplace since it is required to develop trust amongst colleagues, and by
trusting colleagues, your team may achieve even greater success.

In our week 3, we continued the 3 remaining C’s in 4’c of communication, we also discuss passenger-
oriented service and railway as an interdependent systems. I learned in the 4c's of communication lecture
that spoken and written communication can be critical in ensuring safety. They are critical safety tasks or
professions in which proper communication plays a crucial role. We also tackled the importance of critical
and creative thinking and collaboration. We also do an activity for each C’s for further understanding the
concept of 4c’s which I enjoy the most. The last topic we discuss for the month is railway as an
interdependent system. We discuss here the different departments of the railway systems and how they
work as one for better efficiency, safety and reliability.

The challenges I faced in the past few weeks of our fundamental training course was my internet provider
and managing my work and training schedule. Sometimes our Wi-Fi was always losing connection due to
network maintenance in our area and I need to top-up load balance for me to be able to attend the
training. The next one is my work schedule, my work schedule is the same as my training schedule every
Saturday and I am really having a hard time managing both every Saturday. The changes I made was
always have a load balance for me to be able to attend training even if our internet provider is down. For
my work schedule, I am requesting to my team leader to change my schedule every Saturday to avoid
conflict on my training schedule.

With those challenges I faced I am still committed in finishing the fundamental training course for signaling
and communications maintenance. Being part of the railway sector is my long-term goal and with the core
values and knowledge I gain this month, I am more motivated to finish this and overcome my challenges
and to be the best version of myself.
